Break Break for a Radio Check!

I was at my sisters for coffee today, and she said she found box of some old things of mine I stored there years ago. I had forgotten about it long time ago...and inside was one of my old radios from the early 1980's. It was my 40 channel Realistic C.B. Radio with attached mic. The antenna is almost 4 ft long and takes 10 AA batteries. I put some batteries in it and still in good shape. We used to use these down at the old hunting camp, and just about everyone had a regular c.b. in their car then. Things sure have changed, and size and technology left this old radio in the storage box. The size of the FMRS radios today compared to the old cb sure is obvious. Does anybody remember using these way back then? And what was your "handle" that you used. I remember using "Green Giant" ......Break 19 for a radio check....LOL

In 1988 my girlfriend was spending her first year at college. Kent state. She had a Mustang GT (1988) with t tops. She came home for a weekend and I accompanied her back for a day. She was on that cb talking to all the truckers and knew where every radar trap was. Her tube top and short shorts , gorgeous legs and that cb got us there in some ungodly time. I still get nervous about how fast we got there doing triple digits most of the way.

I turned it on earlier and could hear "skip" on channel 6, lots of southern accent coming from the guys I heard. The cell phone came around and cb just faded away I guess, but it is a hobby for some or maybe truck drivers still.

Had one just like it.  In my early teens, had a truck cb in my bedroom hooked to a inverter. Had a 20' antenna hooked to a 15' pole that dad hooked to the chimney up on the roof.

I was hit by a car, and had two smashed up legs. Had to get a tutor for over a yr.

Dad set the cb up in my room.  Think he regretted it after a while.  I'd be up all night talking to people. I'd get the complimentary "pounding on the wall" from dad telling me to shut it down.

That cb got this 13 yr old through some challenging times.

Thanks Dad...

Lol.   Rarely went on ch 19 to talk. Mainly to learn the lingo.

Don't remember the channels I used the most, but there was about 4 people I'd chat with.

Mom and dad were strict with a few rules.  Couldn't give out my full name, or address, birthday ECT.  Yes, even in '78 they were concerned.
