Let's see who else will join. Moog's group in the AR15 thread gave me the idea. Let's see what you got 100yds 5shots freehand with a deer rifle.

Strapped on the snow shoes and wanted to shoot a couple groups to see what I had. Here is my backyard range.220d703924d1b02c7d661adf63d973e1.jpg&key=738518972e0ce3f0410b9c6b078073de20b49f5e14fff35acd4499f9a59c720d

Winchester model 94 30-30 Williams peep. Barnes hand loads.

H&R handi rifle 30-30 4X junk bushnell scope, Barnes handloads. Just did a trigger job to this and it went from over 9lbs to down around 4 and pretty clean. 8a5fefd89ba88efcf7f7d0d655c93a54.jpg&key=8179690bc45c8af6f34f498b7cbfd3d9cb55708a60ab5ff70150709b9a5d1c15f4860207868c5782f964385310c452e0.jpg&key=07122aec2ba0ba4d9940b858a5c5bea52fce534b876388eaa17d56d961ea2d36

Wow.  Good shooting.  If it’s the gun, I may need that back.   Lol

You still have her big sister in your gun safe!

That Bavarian is so cool!

Too bad I couldn't figure out a way to make that disappear like Treeguy's light!!!....grin.

Thanks, hard to see in the picture but there is like 16 steel target hanging at various ranges from 7-300yds.

I would love a range like that.  I can squeeze out 175 if I sit on the hedge row and more if I try to pick a spot in the woods.  lol

I believe that I may hold the record for being the crappiest off-hand shooter around. It's the same as a moving target except it is my crosshairs that are moving and bouncing around. Just a wiggly old fart. I doubt there is any amount of practice that will settle down that sight. That is why if I can't find a good gun rest or at least a tree to lean against, I don't shoot. Its that bad. My deer stands for gun season are all designed the same. Kind of like log and branch walls with gun rests all the way around. When still hunting, I have a Primos bi-pod that goes with me.

Shooting offhand nobody holds their sights perfectly still on the target, everybody is moving to some extent some more than others to be sure. The key is trigger control and timing, touching off the shot when the sights on on target however fleeting that moment is. Some can get the hang of it better than others, a lot of practice is the best way to become a good shot.

I find if you control your movement and then time it, it works well. I practice more off hand than any other way cause thats how my shots come. I don't use a rest when hunting so I practice the same. It works for me.

It really is timing and trigger control. For me, it's getting the counter clockwise circles as small as possible, then squeezing, not jerking the trigger, at just the right time.

I have shot with some very very good shooters while shooting on the Parris Island shooting team and instructed thousands of Marine's and Marine Corps recruits and I can honestly say that I don't pay any attention to breath control or trigger control when shooting freehand. When the sights are where I want them I pull the trigger.

I always had to give this disclaimer before I taught the standing position because I always felt weird teaching something I didn't do. I'm sure I would shoot better if I did follow the fundamentals but I have gotten by with doing it wrong.

One thing I have noticed practicing with the pellet gun is that the faster I can get on target and execute the shot, the more accurate I am.  I almost like slowly moving from off target to the bull and holding very briefly and then shooting.  If I try to stay on the bull too long the bouncing gets bad.  Still practicing though.  I also seem better with a medium vs firm hold.
