Haleys first deer rifle

Recommended Posts

I finally Had some extra time tonight and mounted up a Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 with a Leupold base and Weaver Grand Slam rings. Tomorrow we’re gonna pick up a few boxes of ammo and get it sighted in. She wants to get out after chucks next weekend at the farm.

Federal fusion 120 gr is an awesome low recoil round for 7mm08

Thats one that Im planning to have her try in it. I use Fusions in my 308 and have been more than happy with the performance.

We didnt have a chance to shoot yesterday, so we will sight it in this coming weekend.

7mm 08 is the (late) 20th century version of the 7x57 Mauser.

Both are perhaps the best medium game cartridges ever produced when weight, recoil, versitility and efficiency are considered.

Far and away a better choice for a 1st medium game rifle than a .243.

Haley sighted in her rifle today. There’s a 2 shot group on the right of the bullseye and a 3 shot group to the left. She’s running Hornady American Whitetail 139gr. Should be just fine for hunting.

Pics taken shooting at 50, groups shot at 100.

Sight it in 2 1/2" high at 100yds and never be more than 3" from POA out to 275 yds. That's what the top of the diamond represents.
