We pretty much got it handed to us today.  4.5 hours on the lake and not a walleye to be seen.  A couple perch.  So many boats it looked like the party barge navy was out there.  We came inot the canal and threw the shorelines with senkos for some smallies for the last 2 hours. Got a few for high noon fishing so we had some action.

So was last Sat a strikeout and then Sunday had a limit by 8am.  So maybe that will happen again......

Banner day out of buffalo on eyes. All catch and release believe it or not as my dad and I are having people over for his birthday and didn't wanna fillet fish and cut the grass etc. Wish I took pics to share now that I'm home lol.

I catch walleyes so seldom that I can't imagine putting them back....Only time I have done that was while fishing some spots up in Canada  where you .can catch a bunch in a day  and can only bring back one day's limit, so you only keep what you are going to eat  per day...

I fish walleyes in my local river, but fishing is not great..I have only caught my daily limit of five three times in my life...Generally, if I catch one legal walleye in a morning' or evening, that is a very good day..I often fish several days without catching a legal fish, other than bass...

Last year I caught a nice one (22")  on my very first cast of the first day I fished for them....Fished 3 more times and caught NADA, so I went on to more productive fishing  like perch, panfish and smallies...

Went out on Thursday to the willowemoc and a the beaverkill. I tried wets and nymphs, but I couldn’t manage anything so I switched between different drys. I finally found the right dry and caught about 8 or 9 Browns. First time dry fly fishing so it was pretty cool to catch them on top. I learned a lot that day. All the fish were around 12” but I did see some 18”+ fish on the beaverkill. I only casted to one of them before I had to leave and couldn’t get it to take. I did get one big hit on the soft hackles, but dries were the key. I’ll need to drop some cash on some more dries. I’ll take any suggestions on what I should get. I’m thinking some BWO, adams in different sizes and some more sulphurs. All but 2 were released. All are different fish. 7ecff55b0da2f63f2f80833c86911dda.jpg2bea73f171427622dd9578627562d670.jpg9c0e17065a5736ca372cc9edb7200155.jpg4fe77cfa66cdb4bb1e1647992e2a659b.jpgc9d4b73806c9109d4b2cbb947cf7b002.jpg25073f1dab45968844a6aa163b457752.jpgaff38e14c4bc2edc3334ba4a1de743cc.jpg

If you ever are in buffalo and have some time give me a holler, be glad to put some eyes in your freezer, or try to at least lol

I can do well in the spring and the fall but I def struggle even on oneida in the summer with the walleye.  Late fall gets good again but I am then obsessed with deer.  Used to get some real lunker's in the summer on the st Lawrence, but would only ever get one or two a day but it was usually a 6-8 pounder.

Gonna have to sched some time to come up next spring for a walleye day on Oneida with me.  We've had our best spring ever this year.  Those damn turkeys got to much of my time this year too!  Lol

But I can already see that it's getting tough.  I gotta figure out those summer eyes.  Pickup my trolling game for suspended walleye or figure out those weed edge eyes with some slip bobbers or something.  Prob is I get frustrated and just head for bass.  Lol

The fall nights in the shallows were always great too, but my favorite spot off shore is now posted .   And I really don't care much for night fishing on the lake in a boat. And I am old enough now that fishing til midnight then getting up at 4 to deer hunt is a bit much.

Adams is a great generic mayfly imitator...When I was tying, I would tie a grizzly hackle rather than the classic spent wing, in sizes 14, 16 and 18...

Last time I fished the Beaverkill, which was awhile ago, 2 friends and I  fished just upstream of the covered bridge...Several flies were coming off, but one of my buddies finally figured out which one the trout were eating.... # 18  BWO.....between the three of us, we caught and realeased  about 60 trout in  about 2 hours...Great day...

Nice day AT...elk hair Caddis (tan and cinnamon) size 14-18.. I also have success with isonychia right at night.
Where were you fishing that you can keep them from the Beaverkill? I know there are a few stretches where you can take fish but I have never seen much action there.

The fish I kept were from the willowemoc, by the covered bridge. The bigger fish I saw were on the beaverkill though

Totally agree on the caddis, and also get some terrestrials. Ants and foam beetles. It’s getting to be about that time

Got out for some bassin on the canal.  Did a bit of guiding for the guys and even caught a few myself.  Got some quality smallies and largemouth today.  Young guy here is headed for Paris island in August graduates next week.  Had to get him out fishing before he goes.  One of my buddies kids and the boy can fish!  Lol.  Other guy is fishing buddy Corey with a nice largemouth for sure.  Good day on the water.

Crushed today. 7 in 2 hours of trolling. Kids had a blast. Daughters first fish was a nice eater @18". Son really wanted to use his rod... he knows dad's not scared to send it down on the rigger lol. Eyes headed for the fryer in about 5 min. More pics to come this week !ada5a39afea6829c716ba570edccc554.jpg1aeb0f1bf60db8a4acc766f698622161.jpg

I just drove along Lake Erie in Hamburg and it is a sheet of glass

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

We launched out of Sturgeon point.  it was a sheet of glass most of the morning.   I was surprised to see the water visibility was less than 5 feet.  They must have had a lot of rain recently down in Ohio.   We tried jigs early, but only managed about 6 sheephead, all of which were released (1 had to be 12 pounds), lost a nice smallmouth and landed a 22" walleye on those at about  20 foot depth.   The limited visibility really hurts the jig bite.  After the wind picked up to maybe 5 mph SW, we trolled hot-n-tot and bomber plugs in 15-20 feet and picked up (2) 18",  a 16" and a short smallmouth, plus another walleye (21").  That last walleye exhibited a fight equal to a water-ski.   Erie must really be loaded with walleyes this year, as there seems to be "strays" everywhere.   I was thankful for a few packages of "non-toxic" Lake Erie fish for the wife and kids anyhow.  I am sure I will get my "high risk" stuff next week up on the St Lawrence.
