philoshop
For over twenty years my cell phone was indispensable because of the construction business I was in. 30 to 40 calls a day from or to suppliers and subcontractors. Now...not so much. I talk to family and friends once or twice a week and pay $50 a month for the privilege. It seems stupid. And my old flip-phone has three characters per button, so texting is almost impossible. At least for me. It's just not my world. Tracphone, Consumer Cellular, I'm looking at others. And I need a new phone. Any suggestions?
corydd7
Once again this is what I do for a living and pre paid is the way to go for a guy like you. Verizon pre paid is the best bet if you don't need a ton of internet but want service everywhere. All main providers have pre paid options that have the same coverage. Only people who should be on contracts are people who want $700 phones or people who have money to burn. Consumer cellular is the cheapest but solid plan if bottom line is what your looking for. If you buy an android stick to samsung or LG, don't buy ZTE Edited April 25, 2018 by corydd7 more info

If you buy an android stick to samsung or LG, don't buy ZTE I spend 18 to 20 hours a day in front of a computer for work, my phone doesn't need to add to that. The phone just needs to be able to send and receive calls and store the numbers that I want. Texting would be nice because people are finding it increasingly difficult to pull themselves away from whatever they're doing to actually answer the phone. I'm getting cranky in my dotage. Thanks for the help corydd7.

I write political commentary and opinion for the internet and various news sources. It's fun to have something to do, and I don't much care for jigsaw puzzles. The downside is that I can't see for crap any more and even walking out to my backyard range is becoming difficult. Neither of which is really work related. I didn't choose to leave the construction industry until there was no other option.
DirtTime
Look into Total Wireless, they are a sub if Verizon and use the same towers and signal. I think a single phone prepaid plan starts at $35 a month with unlimited talk and text/pic sending, and something like 5 gigs of data per month. I'll have to check what our plan has for two phones, it's like $63 with taxes and fees per month with 15 gigs of shared data. We have been using them for almost three years and no serious complaints so far.Sent from my SM-S327VL using Tapatalk
nyslowhand
I use Tracfone's "pay as you go" plan for calls, text and data for around $125/yr. More than enough air time and this year I even carried over so much I only had to buy ~$45/365days service refill. They do have other refill cards having more minutes/data, but getting closer to the $200/yr range. Way more than I need for the few calls/texts I actually use. Tracfone is trying, unsuccessfully, to do away with "pay as you go" refill plans and offering small monthly service plans. There's just too many refill cell phones out there and the current demand is high for new ones, for obvious reasons. They just can't seem to cut the cord on those plans. They also have a BYOP option. May need a new/replacement SIM for some minimal charge. I'd bought a 2-3yo (new) Samsung Galaxy S5 for ~$150 that was tied to Verizon towers, but no specific carrier's plan (unlocked). Okay, I'd still be carrying a flip phone if it weren't for the great cameras on the newer smart phones. The rest of the bells & whistles I could do w/o! Robhuntandfish
for most people their cell phone is this important these days. I miss the days when people had to wait til you got back from somewhere. I cant even turn mine off cause i am on call 24/7 for accidents/breakdowns at work and also on call for all emergencies if needed.
