If I went by what I've seen in the woods, anything over 130" would have to be a fence deer.

If it's a fenced deer, so be it, but those that are "claiming" it to be because it's not anything they've seen or "it's got to be" because of the size, proove it..  its possible it was a fair chase hunt.

Mowin

while I understand your point, that buck is far bigger than the nontypical world record which is 312”.  Bet my house it ain’t free range.  A free range buck like that would be well publicized.

You've got to be kidding me.......

It's also possible GQ magazine will want me for cover shoot late this summer after I tan-up a bit.

I might believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny, but I don't believe that was a free roaming deer. No proof, JMO.

A 130 buck, on our properties is a very rare occurrence too. So I'm no BIG buck expert.

True That. Point once again proved what real deer could look like everywhere with the right genetics. I would guess that buck is a breeder and replicas made. Probably just another quarter million dollar deer.

Anything is possible i Guess but a buddy of mine visited a big deer farm out in mid west somewhere years ago and they took them on a tour showing everyone what they were pumping into these bucks seeing what works best to build racks. I do not know if it has been mentioned here on other forums but alot of bucks in past years that were in nys big buck club have now been busted for saying they were free roaming deer and actually were shot in high fence preserves.  It is a shame for the actual giant bucks that were shot legally but has everyone guessing.  Kind of like baseball and steroids..........

It gets a little tricky ..... BTW the hunter , as I first posted right after he killed it is the cousin of my nephew’s hunting partner .

Non Typical   is what they call it.

If they are indeed pumping a caged-in pet steroids.... I wouldn't eat it.    Much less shoot it.     But each his own.     I know some of these farms are 5000 acres, and finding a pet deer in 5000 acres is no easy task.....

But hey, I went bear hunting over bait  :)  so don't let me judge.      But it was a wild bear, and it taste good   ;)

Kinda shows you have never been to a farm. These deer are only pumped with great bloodlines. It's amazing that people think these deer are pumped with this or that. These deer are 6 figures large for the farmer so they are treated sweeet.

i just went to a friend's bday party and looked at a free range non-typical over 200"... again. it had at least splitting drops too. it doesn't really matter at that point they're just plain big.  a lot goes into allowing both bucks fenced or free range to express the genetics they have. genetics can't do it all by themselves. the one in this post is still an incredible deer though.

That 400" deer did not get there on its own. I as well would rather shoot a 140" buck on my land or up in the Dacks or something. I guess people with 20-30-50 grand to go shoot a farmed deer need to do something with their cash lol.

Cool looking rack. I wont run anyone down that chooses to hunt in a fence unless they tru and pass it off as free range. My girlfriends uncle has a farm/ranch. The bucks are kept in 2 or 3 acre pens until they are 1 1/2. Only 1 person deals with them while they are in there, and let me tell you, they are as skiddish as wild deer. If you get within 200 yards of the pen, they are high tailing it to get out of sight. After that, they go to the ranch, and live there until they die or are killed by someone. Inside the ranch fence is basically like most other hunting properties. Theres lots of brush, thick woods, thin woods, a swamp, food plots, etc. The deer act just like wild deer in there, only difference is they have a limited range and better genetics. They eat pretty much the same food as most other deer in the area, except they use mineral licks and whatnot, which you cant do in the wild in this state. In any case, a "hunt" there isnt that simple, hell they have some red stag in there that nobody saw from late spring until early winter, and they are bigger than a whitetail. They also have bucks pop up each year that were born in the ranch, and they have no idea what they will become.

I dont know that I would ever do a deer hunt behind a fence like that, Im positive I wouldnt pay for one. Maybe hogs or something, where it was a more fun way to get some pork in the freezer.

They actually just had their first white buck born this spring. Hes a cute little guy.

I love how people always use pics of the biggest deer behind fence and then talk hunting. These 4-500 inch bucks are the reason most farmers that are in the biz bring in 6 figures a year. These are special animals and make those 200-250 inch sons at 2 years old like clockwork and those net 8-10 grand each at just 2 years old. Bucks like this grow an old happy life most times with the only stress being giving up those 150 straws a year that bring a grand apiece. Yup lots of Bucks $ involved in the big circle.

For the most part yes. Most states can't raise enough bucks to fill the demand by hunters. Bucks like these guys bring big money for semen, awesome money for their 2 year old sons and fetch a pretty penny for his daughters for other farmers to cross bloodlines. If I had a straw if this buck I would put it in my doe that had the widest genetic background. Take that blood flow that this buck has to make that kind of mass and put it into a doe that has a dad and a mom that are both from 30 inch inside spread backgrounds and bingo! All the way to the bank!

yeah i had to ask about it cause to me it makes no sense. I dont think i would go on a hunt for one of these if it was free.  But i do understand people do different things and pay good money for it.  Turning stone has a high fence hunt avail and racks over 200 inches are like $10,000.  To me it makes less than zero sense.  But I also wouldnt drop $10K at the casino either.

Nice deer but it can't be put in P&Y or B&C so whats the big deal

According to the article posted, the B&C did score it and is in the process of excepting the score and it will be the #3 NT buck.

So it's looking like it wasn't a fenced deer.

Question for all you guys saying you wouldn't shoot it.  If you went on a hunt and this deer stepped in front of you, you would let it walk?  I'm talking a legit hunt that you vetted the outfitter and are confident your hunting wild free range deer...

The article is about a free range Deer shot in Tennessee in 2016 that scored 312”.  The one I mentioned earlier that Larry’s cousins buddy killed.  It’s not about the Deer that the OP posted which is much bigger.  Look at the photo of the rack in the article in comparison the the one posted.
