Just had a young buck pop out of the woods 100 yards east of me(headed away)....made his way into the field and 35 yards broadside from another stand I passed this am.....no worries though he would have gotten a pass from me ....barely above his ears.
On the plus side great to see movement!!

What I believe was the fourth different buck this morning just appeared out of nowhere in the field.....he was about 75 yards it so I videoed him for my boys to watch later and then decided to hit the bleat can.......he became interested really quick and high tailed it to within 40 yards....but no real clear shot with the leaves and low hanging branches. Nice cover....but they limit the shot opportunities.
Not a bad morning so far.

Bucks all over this morning....just had the potentially 7th different buck within sight.
Two studs appeared one after another right before the 7th.....they will def make me keep my bow on the hook for a while.
They came into the field around 55 yards away and slowly progressed across without a care in the world. They also payed not attention to the blest or grunt tube.

Lovely morning in the stand this am. No Monarch Bucks wandered by sadly. There is a new rub right by the stand however and there was a strong whiff of Buck in the air this morning. I did receive my summit tree harness in the mail however. I hate wearing the things but I figure the discomfort and inconvenience is probably worth it. I will be messing about with that during the afternoon sit.

Woods hunting is tough. I dream of a field edge myself. And yet, most years, eventually something decent comes along. This year I need 4 yrs or better. No interest in the babies this year. I am preparing for disappointment but I know a younger animal will not cut the mustard for me in terms of my head-space this year. A really really great 3 year ole might get a look in toward seasons end. I am more looking forward to getting my nephew on his first deer tho.

Don't let to many pass or you will be going into gun season without one. You need to break your cherry on one, get the first one out of your system and then become more selective. Don't expect your first one to be a whopper although it would indeed be nice. As long as you are enjoying yourself and having fun....that is all that matters.

I get that but after saying I would take the archery class and start to bow hunt for umpteen years I finally did. Been hearing I'd love it for so long. Don't want to end my archery hunt on any buck just to shoot one. my best ever gun buck probably 90" lol   That was many years ago and dinks since. Have two does I can shoot to break the ice . Just want to experience the full swing of the rut hoping to get a shot at a good one. definitely enjoying myself ! Why'd I wait so long !?

Here's how my morning went lol.  Didn't see a thing.  Had to woods dump on the way in, one of my lighted nocks came on, stringing up bow to pull up into stand and almost dropped it.  But you'd think luckily I caught it except i jabbed the edge of a broadhead into my thumb.  Bled all over, didn't need stitches or anything.  Lol great morn....

And yet it was still better than a hunting buddy of mine. ..... See hunter harassment thread in a bit.

It's gonna get even better buddy!   Pre rut , and rut are coming.  Take a meat doe on a late morning soon.  Save the buck tag for the rut and enjoy it.

I'm stalking the forecast from my office. Looks like a cold front is moving through for Friday morning. Could be a 20 degree drop in temps! I'll be out for my first sit of the year. Would love to pop my bow cherry on an old doe.

Congrats to everyone's who connected yesterday and good luck to everyone out today!

Haven’t had time to get out yet this year but, tomorrow I’ll be out with my youth with his rifle and crossing my fingers that he remembers to aim.

He didn’t remember. Lol

Still hunted our way down a hard wood ridge and worked in on some doe. Before I could even get out the words, get a solid rest, he touched one off. We tracked it @150 yards before the pin drop blood we were following stopped. After a couple circles (and 3 hours) I called it off.

Kid learned a lot of lessons today, the hard way unfortunately.

Yup,learning from mistakes is ok and has been done for ages. Just dont keep making the same one, haha. And turkeyfeathers, you got the right idea. Wait for a better buck and get a doe to practice on. You can always get a spiker in early november if you get nervous,i know i have.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
