Still hoping to fill my doe tag before gun season.  Saw a 4 pointer earlier, but he stayed on the far side of the field.  Had 2 doe come out a few minutes later and watched them feed for a while.  Lost sight of one of them, turns out she had come much closer to my stand about 40 yards away.  While I was getting the bow off the hook I made a slight noise.  She stopped and looked hard, then started to walk away.  I hit the bleat can and she started walking back towards me.   I had her two steps away five minutes before sunset, but she just would not take another step into the clearing!!

Got down 15 minutes later and blew three deer out of the field.  Feel like I am getting close......

Middle of open hardwoods , slow, finally three running in green field 150 yards away .

Last light a spike at 20 yards , he locked onto something, then I see two more tails , soon all three in front of me .

Weird year , three different spikes, two small half racks , a few small forks and four different shooters , but no small eights or six’s .

Iwas out for about 8 hours total today. Saw one deer, a fork horn that cruised up the middle of the field with the wind at its back. It managed to stay out of shooting range as he went past me from left to right. I thought he might circle back once he got a whiff of the doe in heat I put out, but I think he may have spotted me. He stared for a good five seconds in my direction, and then kept going away from me. Oh well, hope to get a buck during muzzleloader.

Don’t be afraid to put in some mid season scouting, Gents. By this time deer start to figure us out and re route to their destination. Look for the well used muddy runs in places where you haven’t thought to hunt and set up on them. Good luck to those trying to seal the deal this week. Plenty more bucks out there to be had.

Hang in there Phade. I have a buddy that finally saw his target buck from the stand after almost two full seasons. Literally  100's of pictures, and never saw him from stand until he killed him at 15 yards Saturday.

For the second year in a row, I don't even have a target buck. Lots of bucks, nothing for me, but I have little streaks like this. Plus I never know when a traveller will show up.

Another great day! Morning sit, I passed on yet another small buck. Then saw a huge buck cruising at just over 100 yards. Tried grunting, doe bleats, hit antler bag, all to no avail.  Just kept on going. Hunted up above that morning spot until dark. Had four doe with fawns feeding close by. But no bucks came to the party! Bucks are ready, but most doe in our area are not yet. Should make for an exiting opening weekend of gun!

That's a wrap on my bow season. I held out, all or nothing, for a good buck. Got close, but never got the shots I needed to get it done. Didn't release an arrow or bolt. No regrets at all! I had a blast!

Pretty exciting season!  The big boys won't be so lucky come Saturday.

Went to a new farm in Northern zone tonight. Owned by a client I was able to get her the farm in an estate proceeding. She knew I was a hunter and said if she got the farm it’s exclusively mine to hunt for her lifetime.  Incredibly beautiful property. Back side has 13000 feet along a great trout stream. Unable to scout it at all this summer my nrphew and I went there for a change of scenery. We sat on the edge of cut corn and not ling after 7 doe come out. All if tge sudden they bolt.  I look to my right and here comes a guy storming at us. He comes unglued asking us if we have wrtiiten permisdion etc...yold him no the owner gave me permission shes ip the house. He then tells me to get the F..k out of there...i nicely tell him i sm not going anywhere and the use of foul language is unecessary and childish...he doesn’t knowhow to react bc I am not engaging him...he then says well im gonna stay right here behind you...andI aslk why? He says to PROTECT MY F...king property...and I say from what? He gets more unglued and starts talking to himself...says I feed these fking deer and you aholes come in and blast them..and that I must be 300 feet from his property line...i educated him on how far one must be ftom a dwelling or roadway...he said im Calling the DEC...i said please do as they would love to see your feeding station and perhsps write you a citation for Harassment  Our night was ruined but hes will be really upset next year when the4 box blinds go up around the cornfield!

I am leasing it for 5 years with a right of first refusal yo purchase it...beautiful house and all. 230 acres...HUGE pond covered in geese and ducks...and plenty of grouse and turkey.

I hate people!!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
