Same today in 7A-only 4 hr sit  NADT (not a dam thing), excluding a black squirrel

I must have missed your earlier posts. Noticed you were a Phoenixer as well. I have not heard to many shots the last few days but have not been out as I'm tagged out in 7A until Monday.

Got up here a little later then I wanted to. Heading out for the afternoon going to try the middle of my property and leave the pond area alone until tomorrow. 29 degrees light snow about 3-4” on the ground.

had a good sit last night. Really got to test my new vortex bino's in some low light conditions in the pines. For the black friday sale of $128 shipped these diamonbacks are impressive. Of course anything is nice compared to my old nikon 10x32's. I am going to get a harness for sure though.

Hey Belo, I've been in the market for a new pair of binos, what power are the Vortex binos you got?

I'm not thrilled that these are made in china, not because they're lacking in quality from what I've experienced so far, but because I really do try to buy american when i can. But they were $128 on black friday and I couldn't resist. I am used to my small light nikons that were like 10oz, and these are 20 something. But the trade off in weight and size is worth it I think, especially with the harness. I think I'm most likely to really see the benefits turkey hunting with a much larger FOV and better clarity, so I will be able to get eyes on target much quicker. Something I've struggled with before.

I love my vortex 10 x 32's compact, but clear and great field of view.

Wow, great price! I bought those same binos two years ago and they were about double that price. Let us know how you like the harness. I bought a harness, but it seems cumbersome with everything else I wear during cold weather so I haven't really used mine.

love this harness.  So light and does not inhibit movement at all.  Easy on off. And holds binos secure to chest.  No issue shooting a bow or gun with it on.  I got rid a an FHF harness in favor of this.  So much easier.   All elastic so no need to adjust for heavy or no layers either.

I like the look of that. That thing compared to mine is like a string bikini compared to overalls!

These are nice.

I usually sling binocs under one arm and use a standard neoprene neck strap; but when you want a harness these beat the traditional wide strap harnesses.

Give it a name, apply human sentiment, and its no longer a wild animal its a Disney character.

Adding insult to injury, they avoided me in the huntable area (no fur seen), but one was back feeding in the neighbor's garden when I got home!

There is also deer poop on my front walkway.  Fantastic.

My son and I hunted the woods in the am and saw zip. Deer seem to be in the hayfields now. Saw spike and a doe same one from yesterday after lunch in field below my house. My son decided to do some still hunting in the hayfields along the edges and saw 4 deer and sneaked to within 50 yards of this lil buck. Not so easy with the crunchy ground!IMG_0550.jpeg

No doubt about it. Very frustrating. This spot too was my only private spot down here. Looked dynamite on paper but ive had problems all season with people messing with my stuff.

The 2018 deer season is only a few short months away, and we are bringing back a deer hunting contest, The HuntingNY Whitetail Classic! You can sign up for the contest by replying to this thread, sign up starts now and will end at Midnight on September 28, 2018 at which time this thread will automatically lock. In the contest section, each hunter will get their own thread, in which entries should be posted. Contest entries must be submitted by Midnight on January 2, 2019 (Sorry, seasons that run into 2019 are not included in this contest).

      Contest Rules

-The Deer must be taken in NY during the 2018 deer season (Oct 1 - Dec 31)
-Deer must be tagged with regular NYS carcass tags (Buck, DMP or Either Sex). Deer tagged with nuisance permits or DMAPs will not count.
-There must be photos of the deer included in the post(s), they must clearly show the hunter, the antler points of bucks, a clear picture showing the inside spread measurement (must clearly see where each end of the tape measure is touching), this year's tag attached to the deer as well as a contest card (details below)
-Each hunter can enter up to 2 bucks and 2 does

      Scoring system

-Each deer will earn 10 points
-Bucks will earn 1 additional point per scorable antler point
-Scorable antler points are 1 inch in length measured from the base of the point. Fliers, kickers, droptines, etc ARE scorable
-Total score of each hunter will be added up at the end of the contest, highest total score wins
-In the event of a tie, greatest measured inside spread of the entered buck(s) will be the tie breaker (if hunters are tied and each entered 2 bucks, the spread on each entered buck will be measured)

      Contest Card
With a black marker, make your contest card on a sheet of white 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Write large enough so it can be seen in one of the entry photos. It should include the following

At the top, write - 2018 HuntingNY Whitetail Classic
below that include your screen name, and the date and location of the harvest (WMU)

The card must be clearly visible in at least 1 photo of deer or that entry will NOT count.

      Youth Division

There is a separate youth division for hunters under age 18. Exact same rules and scoring as above.

      Prizes

We will be announcing this years prizes in a separate thread once we have the contest section ready.
