Was a busy, cold weekend in 7 F

We had deer moving every day so yesterday morning I decided to take a doe.  Earlier in the season we noticed that the deer were walking the edge of the Oneida River, like within a few inches in spots.  The snow really showed us their escape routes. So a stand was put in and this one was sneaking through with another about 9:15 AM-  my buddy took a nice 8 point the week before.  She didn't make it.

Then we crossed river and went to some property in 7A.  That's where things got weird.  Another buddy sent us a photo of a doe laying down about 75 yards from him. I told him to take it but he thought it was dead. It wasn't .  It was severely wounded, so he shot it.  Upon further review, it had it's left rear leg just about completely shot off and it was relatively fresh since it had snowed.  We tracked it back to posted property and backed off. What a terrible shot.

Got my “butcher shop” ready to process deer later today.  Tenderloins are seasoned and ready for the skillet to start things off!  Brother hooked me up with another nice big slab of granite!

Cannot wait to get out with my flinty!  Good luck to the hunters in the woods today!

cant wait to get back out with the muzzy.  I havent ever gotten a muzzleloader deer so hoping to get it done.  Two additional spots open back up for me that i cant gun hunt but can bow or muzzle hunt there.  And the one has standing corn still and I took both of my deer there in bow.  The other i can hunt xbow there late season.  So i am ready!  Prob try some afternoon hunts there and mornings on the lease.

Fairly successful morning.. I still hunted into a( new to me)piece of state land. I came across these 2. Typically I give the little ones a pass but he hung around too long and it is the last day of mzl ..And it was fun.  ; ).

I'm glad the ice was mostly "hard" They were over a mile to the rd.. there was a beaver flow/ creek all the way to the rd..

We are shooting the same gun, and if I had any testosterone in me at all we'd have the same beard!

Not exactly live but I was busy pushing all day yesterday instead of live from the treestand. There were 10 of us and we did 7 different pushes on different areas of the property. Not as productive as last year but not bad either. The guys were able to take 3 doe and a nice 6pt with no brow tines. 1 coyote. I missed on a long poke at a coyote. It seemed like we pushed out more coyote than deer but several shots were taken at them, all but one being misses.  Two guys got a look at a big boy but he went through so fast no shots were able to be taken. It was a nice last day, hanging out with boys. I need to get some boots that are better for walking than the 2000 Gram Cabela's boots I got. They are heavy and by the end of the day I felt like I was lifting cement blocks. Can't believe the season is over already. Where does the time go. Here is a pic of the 6

had a heating system pipe leak at the house i just moved into. looks like someone did a half ass job soldering the elbow going into the fin tube to stop a previous leak prior to putting in the new carpet. ripped up the carpeting and working on getting it all fixed. at the office for a little then heading back home to get heat in much of the house back up and look into flooring and replacing carpet. no live from the stand for me... again. hopefully i can get out the last weekend.

To be continued this week with the ML..

Cam has had 2 different bucks freshening up a scrape/ licking branch around 4:30pm this past week. That cam is 60 yds from my stand. Had one of the bucks come out like clockwork at 4:30pm but he got my wind and bolted because I was facing the other way photographing this little guy..

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
