I love how the DEC measures deer by their potential antler growth.  Better get a bigger freezer for all those antlers!
You can pass deer all you want in Dicksville.  I'm going to shoot them and EAT them.

I mean... if you’re a meathunter (like myself) wouldn’t you want more meat?

Had a skunk sandwich with extra skunk. Even had taken tomorrow off from work. My season has been so shitty I decided to go into work tomorrow. I'd rather spend the day at my midtown office sitting on a trading desk than in the woods. Hopefully things pick up next weekend and I'll take next Monday instead. Here's to hoping

Was solo today. Grandson is nursing a badly sprained ankle, suffered in his last football game. His mom put hunting with grampy out of the question until the swelling goes down. Hopefully next weekend.

This morning saw four bucks. A real nice 8. A little 4 and a spike did a little pushing each other around. And again, saw my target buck, from a different stand. The two big bucks, were just too far out, for a comfortable shot ftom me. Back out again in the morning. Got a surprise for that big nine!

Ugh, hope he heals up quickly!  You're going to need drag help soon for that 9 the way you keep spotting him. :good:

Lots of rifle shots around....Sometimes the bow hunters forget that there are lots of GUN hunters around, and many of them are checking out their ordinance....

One October afternoon I shot a doe with my bow and I was loading it into the back of my truck. As I was doing this , a woman kept driving up and down the road watching me. I thought about confronting her because she was driving so slowly but I figured I’d mind my own business. So now it’s getting dark and I drove the doe to my butcher and from there I went home to take a shower. I’m in the shower when my wife starts knocking on the bathroom door telling me that there’s a state trooper at the front door. So I get dried off and go to the door to see what he wants. He then asked me if I shot a deer a couple of hours ago. I then told him I did and that I just got home from the butcher. Now he tells me that a woman called the barracks claiming she heard gunshots and saw me loading a deer into my truck. I told the trooper that my bow is still in my truck and that I could show him the bloody arrow. After checking out my explanation , he thanked me for my cooperation and he went on his way. I guess she just ASSUMED.

I feel your pain! Dark to dark here too. Saw a decent 8pt that should be thanking his lucky stars he made me hold at full draw long enough to realize that I didn't want my season to end just yet and I still had hopes of scoring on one of the bigger bucks in the area! BUT, after an all day sit, I'm really glad he didn't come back to temp me again, as I was in NO mood! LOL

Is the trip to the Pacific Northwest for business or pleasure?

Business, Tuesday to Friday. I go twice a year but never this, the premier week of bow season!

How much meat is on an unfilled tag?

You have no idea how many tags I’ve punched this season.

The guy had already punched 2 and then entered his bb into some sort of challenge.

Anyhow, we’ve all said our peace. I’m done. Back to the threads original purpose.

This afternoon I saw nothing. My hunting partner was on the opposite side of the swsmp/bedding area, and saw a couple decent bucks. No shots for him either.

Hope he heals up quick so he can get back out there with you!

Sat 6 hours today in stand and saw 0! Phase choo got some explaining to do!!! Lol

My 16 year old heads out to the tower for hour and a half sit before dark and sees a huge doe too far out. Then a 4 point that came right by at 15 feet, then a 3 point who did the same. He said both the bucks were tiny compared to that doe and he wasn’t shooting them lol.

Saw him tonight at our house for dinner. He's getting around a little better than he did a couple days ago. X-Rays all negative so thats great! But still swollen pretty good. Got rolled on while making a sack near the end of the game. He said he would of gone hunting today! But kinda glad his mom held him back.

Hope so John. Trail cam pic's, and my three sightings, have him in a certain area, but never the same place. None of the bucks seen today were chasing. All were cruising though. Once the frenzy of chasing and breeding start, he can, and will be anywhere.

With a bunch of luck, perhaps our paths will get closer together tomorrow. I'm moving to a surprise spot in the morning. Maybe too close? We'll see. Living on the edge.

I love this kind of hunting though.

I’ll post pics in a bit. It was actually a hermaphrodite which I believe is considered a doe?

I think you are correct but still need to use the buck tag. Which is strange. Anyways let’s see some pics. I think you are the second person this year to get an antlered female deer

I was told to use a doe tag since it’s not legally a buck. It’s the second time I shot one like this on this property, but last time it was only a BB so it was easy.

You were told wrong.  If it has even one antler that is more than 3" long, you have to use your buck tag.

Just curious who said that?

Thats why deer in NY are NOT does and bucks; but antlered and antlerless.

Interesting. I don’t know what way is the correct way to be honest.

My line of thinking is use the buck tag because for obvious reason you thought it was a buck when you pulled the trigger due to antlers. If you didn’t have a doe tag then what? Kinda like shooting a button buck. It goes on a doe tag because perhaps there was no was to tell it was a buck.

Just my line of thinking right or wrong I do not know. Wouldn’t be the first time my thought and NYS thought where completely different.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
