My Dads Rifle

The past couple of weeks have been pretty rough. My dad went into the hospital last Wednesday, and by Monday afternoon, I was holding his hand as he took his last breath. The last 2 days have been a whirlwind, so I took A bit of time today to prep one of the rifles he left me. It is a new in the box Remington 7400 chambered in .308 with a Remington 4-12x40 scope. After tightening down the scope mount, I walked Up to my pond to get setup. As I crested The hill, I saw A very nice 8 and a doe standing at the edge of the pond. I watched As they left and got setup. I got The gun sighted in and then laid down a decent 3 shot group. After that I tweaked it and got her shooting nicely in the bullseye. This year I will Hunt all gun season with this rifle in honor of my dad.

I think one of the toughest things one has to experience is watching your parents grow old an and realizing that their time is coming. While we know it is coming I don't believe we are ever prepared for it. On a positive note he didn't pass alone and had someone by his side that loved him. Cherish the memories and think of him every time you touch or look at that rifle.  My Condolences.

WNYBuckHunter,  I know the feeling. I use my dad's peep sighted 742 or 336 on days when it's raining or snowing too hard to keep cleaning scope lenses. Every year I get to hunt at least a few days with one of his guns in his honor. It's comforting.

So sorry for your loss, I do understand what you are going through, there is something special about using your Dad's hunting equipment and icing on the cake when a hunt is successful, it keeps alive that connection! I use my Dad's stuff all the time and will continue to do so until I croak.
