Horizontal Rub Q and A

I would be a little afraid of a buck getting his antlers caught up in that cable. I would use baler twine or the like.

I will keep an eye this. Definitely a consideration.

So, landtracdeerhunter's comment about Bucks getting caught in the wire had me all paranoid this morning. I wanted to lower the spruce trunk anyway, so I rushed out this morning to swap out the wire for some thick, left over audio cable I had. I fully expected to see 3 or 4 bucks stuck to the rub like fish on a stringer, but no, the area was clear. Once I got to replacing the wire I realized the larger post was not secure and coming up put of the hole. I decided to move and rebuild the whole arrangement, this time using a tree as one of the posts. I had to drill through the spruce to help secure the cable. I used post steeples to secure the cable as it does not lend well to twisting or knotting. Plenty of play and movement in this set-up also. Feels rock solid now. I also cut a branch to make stakes for the post with licking branch.

That's funny seeing this. I just found this last weekend on a blown down tree. A few years ago I rattled in a buck and he went to the same tree and was thrashing the crap out of it while I watched from my stand. I guess they like that tree.

Interesting...Does this set-up only work near food plots...main trails..or does it not matter where this arrangement is set?. I wonder about best set-up location.  How about larch tree branch as a horizontal rub? Very interesting.

Merlot, best to find spots where deer travel. This will not draw them to spots rarely traversed. It is designed to stop them briefly on their way to and from food and bedding.
