Not that it matters because I don’t break game laws but that drives me insane that they can just come on your private land. If I got checked on my own land I might be pretty annoyed

I'm not sure what there "officially" allowed to do, but it is possible this landowner gave permission for him to check hunters on his land.

I believe, but not sure, ENCON officer can go onto private lands if he believes theres illegal activities going on.

Maybe someone with more knowledge will reply.

I agree Chef..However I remember  a guest on my property being checked by a game cop on MY private land because the CO heard a gunshot from the road and went in to investigate it...  And this was opening day of gun season...

The guy was legendary  around here.....He would lay on his belly in the rain for hours to make a bust..Whether some of the stuff he did was legal...I don't know..But he sure was EFFECTIVE....

One thing I will say about him...He checked me perhaps 6 times, duck hunting, deer hunting, fishing, fox hunting....And I never once knew he was there until he stepped out from behind a tree..

I would think if a DEC officer wanted to catch someone doing something illegal more chance on private land where people dont expect to be watched .

On public at least a lot of places seems like there is a hunter or hiker behind every bush lol  eyes everywhere . :)
