Limit of eyes.  Lost one had a couple nother hits. A couple of decent perch.  Off the water by 9:30.  Good morning out.  Corey couldn't make it it's his wife's birthday. It's amazing how well the fish hit on her birthday every year.  Lol.

Then breakfast with Charlie. Apple pancakes, eggs over and ham steak.

How are the white perch for eating ?

I should have quit while I was ahead this morning.  I went back out when it stopped raining.  What would have been smallmouth number 70, on my lucky 1/8 oz bucktail jig, got to keep it.

It only looked to be about 16 inches long.  A couple jumps after the hookset, then it came in easy to the boat.  I guess it was saving its strength for that powerful deep dive in close that broke me off at the knot.

I should have re-tied or at least loosened my drag a bit. Up to today, all the bass I have caught have been rather docile, with the water temps in the 60's.  Now that it has hit 70, they are on top of their game.

They are a lot like rock bass actually.

Got 8 cams out today.  Took a walk around the lease. Amazing how thick stuff grows in. Kicked up one deer. Saw a beaver in one of the ponds.  Looks like clover took in some of the trails from spring frost seeding.  So need to get a trail cutter. Def by next spring.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well that fishin mission wasn't what I planned.   Took the day off got out there got two rods down and double up.  Two eyes but shorts.  Then a sheepie, then another short eye, a jack perch and a white perch...then the troll motor kicks off ....wth

So I go and try to turn it back on. It comes on and goes off .  I check the plug in and it does the same.  Something loose in the wire.  Go to pull it apart and its smoking....ugh the wires are def touching in there somewhere. So start cutting into the cover and it kicked the breaker .  So open it up and yup the wires at the connectors pulled out.  Didn't look like they were closed in all the way.

So I taped off the ends and fished for about 15 minutes and decided to go in to fix it.  So reconnected that and mowed lawn and cut brush by the back of the fence.

Morning started off with a double in the first 3 minutes and thought it was gonna be a quick limit.  But could've been worse all is fixed and it's still better than work.

So breakfast and a beer with the pup.

Spent the day putting in some plots (well really on existing trails).  First time doing this sort of thing. What I learned immediately is that the right equipment counts.

Lots.of work for sure and we didn't get all we wanted to get done.  We 1000% need a brush hog for keeping the trails cut down. We cut it with my push weed eater then dragged the area with the plow without weight to use it as a rake.  Then put the weight on it to till it up.

So much grass it caused us to keep stopping and get the grass off after like 2 passes til it was finally mostly gone.

Lots of work and we could only really do two small areas til we are able to get a brush cutter.  We WIll have one in the spring. Beat tired after that and jealous of you guys that have all the equipment for this.

But it was a learning experience and will see how/if it grows.  Atv drag worked well but next time will bring 3 blocks for it.

Pulled cams and only had two buck on cams. A spike and a beautiful high and wide 6 point.  Which is normal for us this time of year.  A couple of bucks and like 4 resident does and some fawns.  Bucks usually pickup closer to season. Lots of pics of some decent does, same three or four.  Apple trees there are loaded.

This 6 is a beauty!

better quality pics form this weekend cam pulls.  Downloaded the pics instead of copies off the big screen .  Not so sure this year a spike wont be on the hit list since i dont have my 6S spot anymore.  But hoping for an early doe and then be on my 5 point or better usual schedule.  That 6 is def a shooter for me!  That branch the doe is sniffing is just always a hot spot.  Have a stand 34 yards from it.

More work this morn for hunting. Corey couldn't make it today so we are going to plant one more spot next weekend.

But I went out and cut an area for it, put up a cam and replaced a cam, and cut down some high grass in one area.

Cutter started stalling towards the end , think I need to clean the air filter.

The stuff we just planted last weekend is already growing!

Next weekend we will finish off a plot and then will be out there one more time to cut shooting lanes and replace straps on stands. Then ready for season.
