Any of you chowderheads follow the “no meat Friday” during Lent? If so I would be curious if some of your dinners.
I am making this tonight for the first time

We follow the Lenten sacrifices.  And we look forward to it!  Tonight we are having Pasta ala Vodka with Shrimp, on the stove right now.   We have a lot of Pasta Fagioli, clam chowder, fresh fish fry, beans and greens, white pizza.  Several more, we could easily do it for the whole 40 days.

Clams Casino above looks great!

AH!!!!  That reminds me of my favorite of all....Peas and Eggs.  Sauté an onion, add a can of baby peas with liquid, add a little chopped tomato, bring to a low simmer for half an hour or so.   Then turn up the heat to a slow boil and crack in a couple of eggs.  Let them set up and eat it with good hearty Italian bread.  King’s food!  I eat the entire portion, mostly because no one else likes it,,,,,,

Scrambled eggs? Or are they more like poached? Gotta admit I’m a little nervous about this one!!!!

What about chicken?  I'm not religious so I don't claim to be an expert.  I over heard a co-worker talking about chicken and so I mentioned the no meat thing and she said that chicken was ok.  I took her word for it.

I was raised Catholic, but was never given any good reason why we can't eat meat on Friday, especially during Lent.  When I was a kid we never ate meat on Friday all year.  Always seemed stupid to me and never got a good explanation from anyone for it.  Consequently, I have never followed it.

I've always practiced the Christian faith, but have come to reject many of the things the Catholic church demands from it's members.

Funny but I assume chicken is meat but yet fish is not?!?!?

My kid came home from school on Friday and started making himself one of those cup of noodles soups-chicken flavored! His twin called him on it and they had a debate as to whether “chicken powder” was a meat ingredient. The compromise was that he would dump the water (where they felt much of the chicken powder would be—-uggg!) and only eat the noodles.

Best explanation I heard about meatless Friday was because meat “back then” was a treat-No refrigeration. What’s silly about this tradition now is that for me going for a slab of sushi or a lobster dinner on a Friday in Lent would not be a “sacrifice” but a treat.

I guess what it does for me is helps me think about my religion, not just on Sunday for a few weeks of the year.
