my guess,  water rat harms any of those turkeys, he'll be walking funny.

My cousin has the same problem.  He tosses out feed for his chickens and ducks, and the turkeys come running.   Can just about touch the things. 

Walk up into the fields and those same birds change into the most challenging to hunt.
