So if I read it right, there is no way to know from visual appearance to know if a deer has it but they recommend against eating a deer that is infected.  Well that is extremely helpful!

Yeah. Pretty good it's such a bad disease yet the deer has to be killed by other means to find out if it has the crap? Harmless to beast or human. Same Prion as Scrapies in sheep and the store freezers have been packed with that for as long as hunters have been eating positive deer. Get on forums in positive states and see how many have never had their deer tested. 50-60 years of being harmless pretty much sums it up for most.

Maybe I should put on my tin foil hat but is it possible they are playing us for suckers and are just making up exaggerated story's about this to scare deer hunters  from eating the meat or discourage hunting of deer all together?
