Shed Hunting 2020

Thanks guys!

A few quick notes on that skull. I thought it was an old one at first but there were legbones and spinal chord still at the scene with connective tissue holding them together so it was definitely from this year.

Also, the rack color seemed odd to me as well as the rodent chew on the antlers. Instead of nice clean cut chew marks, the antler chews were jagged and porous, and almost looked torn leading me to believe they weren't fully hardened yet before they became chew toys. The dark areas on the antler that weren't on top exposed to the elements were fiberous and stringy, and could be peeled off like a thin skin layer of string cheese leading me to believe that buck died sometime before hunting season while he was still in velvet..., or at least partial velvet.

I've never seen one in this condition before, so it's all purely speculation on my part, but I can't imagine what else could explain any of that.

Also think maybe that little 3pt side got rattled off when the youngster came upon the wounded warriors remains and tried to settle an old score with him..., but again, that's all purely speculation on my end!:D

Seems plausible and really interesting. Makes sense too that the little one would be knocked off instead of dropped- still a bit early in my mind. Although I am now itching seeing some sign from you guys and gals

I had to run out and pull our blind from hunting season this afternoon, so I decided to go for a quick hike around the block before I got around to that. Spotted an old skull first and could tell the tines were pretty chewed up, but then I saw a tine sticking up beside it a few feet away and figured that had to be the broken piece. Nope.... first fresh shed antler of the year from another buck laying right next to it just as it lays in the first few pics! Felt AWESOME to get back out there and find some bone again!

Saw the run and decided to head that way and there she be.

Looks like a wintering area (Yarding).  Nice find!

It’s actually their whole year area...”small” pocket of woods in 3S sandwiched between a parkway and a residential area. No hunting “allowed” clearly doesn’t mean “no hunting” as I have found plenty of hang on stands, headless carcasses and gut piles without a carcass.

No its tough looking in Jefferson right now with all the snow and most are still holding unless injured. What are in Jefferson do you Hunt?

Ive got a Lab I'm training for sheds right now to hopefully increase my chances. I hunted a piece of private property in Adams this year but the last two years I hunted on Fort Drum.

I honestly wasn't even looking for sheds at the time...but I caught this with that Sixth Sense peripheral vision I have for deer antlers as I was driving by. Shed#2 = hometown roadshed. I'll take it!

You anger me sir! Here’s where I walked Sunday to find a buck dropped an antler somewhere in there but I couldn’t find it!
