My Eye.......

So last night after work I needed to trim my fingernails. That happens in the basement as they tend to fly like mini boomerangs....

Ive had a couple hit me in the face but no damage was done. Last night my luck ran out, uggh.  One little nail clipping came zinging right into my left eye! Holy crap, I jump up and run up to the bathroom and look into the mirror. I couldn’t see anything but it itched and watered bad.  I thought maybe it flushed out during the run upstairs??

A couple times during the evening and today during the day it started to itch and water again but would soon go away. I thought maybe it was just a small scratch on my cornea or something at that point, how could a hunk of nail not be incredibly painful??

Well twenty minutes ago it started to itch again, then my vision got blurry. I jumped out of my easy chair and ran to the bathroom mirror. There it was, setting on my lower eye lid!  Thank goodness that flushed out on its own.....

27 hours later!!

Glad it finally flushed out!

a few years ago i was drilling holes to install a new hitch on my SUV, YES i was actually wearing safety glasses, and i felt something hit my eye.  Figured it was dirt....well the next day my eye was pinkish, following day deeper pink....as the days went by red, and darker red.  I felt absolutely fine....Jenn said you better go get it checked. I said yeah ok, I will get right on it, being sarcastic.  She insisted, so i went, the eye doctor right then, and there dremeled out a chunk of metal that the drill bit flung out.  I got lucky.

glad you are ok

I typed the OP from my phone as it's quicker to post a quick picture........

This is the fourth time I've had "stuff" in my eye.  The first was back in the early 80's while helping a friend bale hay on the family farm.  I itched it a bit and figured it was just some chaff or something similar, no big deal.  Well when I woke up the next morning my eye burned something fierce, the daylight killed me.  I drove to work with one hand over my eye and my boss helped me find a eye doctor that could take a peak.  I went to his office and he started poking around my eye ball, all the while I'm in incredible discomfort.  It only took a couple minutes for the doctor to find something that didn't belong in there.......an insect wing!  Within seconds I felt 110% better.

The other two times I had my contact lens go up and disappear from the front of my eyeball, GONE!  I thought they were up around my brain, never to be seen again or going to come out my nose.   One took about an hour to come down, the other a few hours.  Weird stuff.......

One of the worst I heard was from my aunt who was cleaning out under the back deck. A carpenter ant fell onto HER EAR. It continued to burrow deeper and deeper into the ear and wouldn’t come out, trying to bore through her eardrum. Had to be removed at the ER. She said the pain was unbearable an the sound of it scratching her eardrum was , well, deafening.

Well since were sharing, was at work several years ago and doing a exhaust replacement, torched of the nuts on a exhaust clamp. The clamp was rusted to the pipe so I gave it a smack with the hammer and it flipped around and the end went into my eye. Went to the eye doctor and they picked 5 pieces of metal out of my eye.
Another time I was working on a side job welding up a customers snow plow, I was laying under the truck welding the cross brace on his plow frame and yep a tiny piece of slag fell in my eye . I still don’t know how that piece made it by my helmet. That one hurt like a mother .

Back in the 80s I was working in a garage . I was working overhead cutting an exhaust  and a piece of hot rust fell above the cutting glasses  I was wearing and fused itself to my eyeball. Er visit and a specialist  eye dr to remove it . Month with no work  and a freaking eye cup and patch. I have permanent  ripple in my lens that fortunately  is correctable  with glasses.

I dont do anything without my glasses .. safety glasses and  face shield .

At my last job (retail) they had a cardboard bailer with a coil of steel wire hanging off the side of it.everyone would bend it to $hit/mangle and was my prob being warehouse manager.grabbed the wire cutters and started cutting.first few went good then snap, right to the face!dont know how hell it missed my eye as a small piece of wire lodged under my eye.ran to grab the flush kit and tweezers!got it out but that hurt like hell!

Glad to hear all good Lawd!

Glad to hear you're ok. We've all been there done that, although probably not a fingernail! Bet you didn't know there is metal filings in particle board? I do, I found out the hard way, years ago cutting a sheet with my power saw, felt something hit my eye hard, ended up at the dr's and they used a magnet to pull the little piece of wire out! Just recently my eye was bothering me kinda like i had a cat hair in it, but for 2-3 days it wouldn't wash out or get better. I happen to have me eye exam  last Friday and turns out i scratched my cornea. There put in a clear contact for 1 week. Went back yesterday and is healing up fine.

I don't ever remember having stuff hit and or go into my eye as a kid our young adult. Now that I'm older I swear stuff bounces off my eye all the time. Just in recent memory alone I took a small branch that i never saw directly to my eye while riding my ATV back to camp. Thought for sure I'd be black and blue from that one. I was opening a non screw top beer bottle and the cap flew off and connected square with my eye. Then just last weekend I was pulling trim off a wall at the house and it snapped in two and one of those pieces hit me right in the eye! I swear I'm just going to wear safety glasses 24/7.

Was using a set of these the other day while teleworking... went to remove them and the rubber piece dislodged and was stuck in my ear.

ł tried to remove it with my fingers and accidentally pushed it in farther. Tweezers wouldn't quite work either as ł couldn't see inside my own ear.

Had to get help removing it but avoided what would've been my first ever trip to an urgent care.

Earned a new nickname in the process: "Bud".
