10/9: Had a good wind and cool morning so hunted before today in 3S (private) till 830am. On Tuesday at2pm I put a cam over a scrape. This morning heard a deer coming from swamp and sure enough he walks by me at 7yds and by the scrape. About 12ft below me (I’m in chair on rock ledge). I saw big a body and wide 4pt. I didn’t see much more. Cam caught movement and took pic at 637am but deer wasn’t in frame. Would have been nice to confirm what I saw. Then 645-655am I listened to a red fox screaming it’s head off. Finally it got light enough for me to see and and it was 42yds away still screaming. Nothing after that, but my cam showed promise considering under 3 full days and crazy winds the last 2 days. A beauty 8pt 5 hours after I set cam and does/fawns each day. Maybe I’ll get back there Sunday to try.

That's promising Biz.   Wait until he starts showing in daylight and go knock him down.   Good luck.

Sunday may be the right wind again before rain Monday and Tuesday. We’ll see. I’ll be smart about it. Just wish the cheap cam caught the buck j saw today to confirm it was in fact a big wide 4pt and not this buck.

10/11: Hunted 3S private spot again this morning till 9am and had one of my greatest NY hunts without even firing an arrow. Got into my spot at 616am. At 645am I saw a deer standing like a statue. Finally by 655-ish I could see it was the 8pt I had pics of with the squiggle brow tune. He was 65ish yards away, but i had the right wind. Unfortunately, he walked left to right and away from me around 7am. After I couldn’t see him anymore I tried a soft grunt and a few more at 715, but no luck.

But then at 725 I look to my right where I’ve never seen a deer come from before and I see a rack. I knew it couldn’t be the 8pt and sure enough it wasn’t. It was a clean symmetrical 10pt. First 10pt I ever seen hunting in NY in my life. He was wider than the 8pt, straight brows, extra G4’s and overall just bigger in every aspect. Darker rack too. He did a big circle between 55 and 75 yards before going back where he came from. I really think I may have grunted him in when trying for the 8pt.

Then at 735am i had a doe and fawn come in under 30 yds and head towards where the 8pt when.

740am 1 more lone doe came through same route as the prior doe and fawn under 30yds.

So 5 deer seen and the two bigger NY bucks I’ve ever seen while in NY. I checked my scrape cam and the 8pt was on it this morning 2+ hours before I saw him roughly 50yds from The cam. Next 2 days look like rain so I’ll wait till Wednesday or Thursday if good wind and try again. I feel like I got a chance at this 8pt. But now the 10pt is a huge wildcard. What a morning!

Invite chef over, sounds like his spot has gone sour.

10/14- Hunted 3S again before work till 830am. Felt like a perfect morning but no deer seen. Checked cam and 2 more bucks since Sunday. Young 6pt hung around on cam for 15min yesterday and a new 8pt. He’s brow-less and not very wide, but he’s a shooter for me.

Next hint maybe on the weekend either a PM or a longer morning. Or back to Dad’s land.

Looks like you have a good spot this year.  Hopefully your dad's is just a lack of acorns and not ehd.

Agree, but unfortunately the hunting land neighbor there who has a house on his 30-40 acres hasn't seen much on cam or in person either. Sucks. But only takes 1 nice buck to make it a great season. We have some public land spots that have good sign also in 3N, so we will hit those as well in november.

thats a monster biz.   And youve seen him once on the hoof.  thats a good sign, esp when they get a little dumber and rutty. PB buck for sure

Yea. I’d gladly shoot either of the 8’s or that 10 of course and be ecstatic. Might try tomorrow PM.

Cam showed a doe this morning, too bad no bucks came looking for her. Also turkeys and a young 6pt

11/2: hunted 3S till 930am. Brutal wind, snow, hail, ice etc. at 840am I blew the grunt call blindly and nearly got run over by a spike. I never heard him coming and boom he was there in front of me and circled behind me at 3yds. Guess my scent control was great because it was blowing right at him. I took a great video before he slowly walked off. Not hunting the PM.
