Sorry to read that saga Squirrel. Quite the ordeal! Better luck next time!

My Sunday pales in comparison, but had 2 broken rod tips, one kiddie rod overboard, son left his sandals on the beach, dunked a bunch of stuff he was ferrying over on his jetski, and lost a $50 bill.

Had the opposite experience Monday. My son and I fished the inlet Monday evening and got into some blues. Between catching, releasing, re-rigging and running around I did not have time to even light a cigar. Lost a lot of fish due to them cutting the 30 pound leader, but had a great time. Still learning the inlet. Might see you out there some day.

Do you prefer the taste of yellow or white perch? I always preferred white, but haven't eaten either in years.

The mayfly hatch here is the biggest in over 12 years so I've been hearing. Lots of them floating on the lake.  Making the bite a little tougher. Everything here is feeding on them.

Def yellow.  The white ones are going in the skunk trap Tonite .

A lodge where I stayed several times in Maine....The locals much preferred the white perch, in fact one guy told me he threw yellow perch on the ice for the eagles....My buddy and I caught some nice ( 1 lb.) white perch and they were very good....I would not go so far as to say they were better than the yellows, though..

That's a Maine thing.  There is a reason they call them "Maine-iacs".

A white perch is actually a bass.  They are alright when caught through the ice IMO, but don't compare to yellows.  Not even close.

Yes, they are true bass along with white bass and stripers...

Largemouths and smallmouths however, are members of the sunfish family...

Def like yellows better. But the whites go in the fryer too   Don't tell Biz....

They are more like a rock bass I think.

Been lurking for a bit, but figured I should send a few pics so you guys know I'm alive. Chasing yellows lately, but I'll be back on the king's ASAP ! We did ok for the walleye derby and ended up between my fishing partner, my son and me we had a 10.5, 9.2, 8.7,8.4, 7.8 and a 7.3. My main hope is to keep my son in the top 10 for the second year, and I think he may actually end up top 5 in the youth division (up to 16yr old). He makes me pretty dang proud as he's been the youngest entrant 2 years strong. His fish are unassisted and it's quite the production to get em to the net, but we make it happen. For a 6yr old, he has no idea how spoiled he is !

Also. Last pic, please guess that forum member....b60a29cb644ab1f8bcde771127ba2ce6.jpg98737d456ed4387cb75bde7a42d3b9b5.jpg511319efbfa638a91f523704ad95f03d.jpg56b5eba24b2208a51e7c39dde0e9b815.jpgd1844fc1ce631f5929d031149898e0eb.jpg045366916e9dafda7b6a61c6d9bec586.jpg

Nice Fish.

I’m 80-85% sure the guy in boat is Goosifer!

If I lived in Maine I’d prefer white over yellow too.  They are huge there!

Great pics and partner-that kid is no joke!

Pretty sure the member pictured is either Stormy or Growie.

Ok, was outside Moriches this morning chasing bunker pods for some striped bass. Absolutely none to be had, instead had almost 30 sharks at boat side. Mostly browns. Was never more than 1/2 mile from the beach, never went deeper than 40 feet. Sorry, hard to get pics while dehooking big fish. Little squirrel didn’t want to get too close to them. Biggest was a thresher at 12ish feet nose to tail. I will have a better camera man next trip.

Radio chatter had a good bite on bigeye and yellow fin at the Coimbra, early am.

Def yellow.  The white ones are going in the skunk trap Tonite .

Yellows in shallow water lakes never compared to deep water whites from reservoir. Maybe it’s the water quality. I don’t bread or fry fish, so maybe that’d the difference. Fish is a healthy dinner so I grill or oven or pan, but never bread it or it defeats the purpose.
