It’s about 2 feet long. Good thing about this design, you can push as well as pull.

I have one of these on the boat that is handy for northerns but like Treeguy says a pair of pliers (needle nose) work just fine. 

I asked my buddy to use his pliers last year to get a big pickerel off the line. Tried to do it without getting him in the boat and net and....dropped his pliers overboard. 

So of course I tell him I wanted to use his so that didn't happen to mine. So the joke all year was can I use your pliers.  When I got new boat I rigged this up for him to get a laugh.

I could see this being pretty handy for small mouthed fish like sunfish.

$20 is a little steep, I think.  I have a plastic one, also needle nose pliers, all in my tackle box, works most of the time.

Those type of unhookers are used all the time in saltwater as has been already stated.  I've never seen one with the downward pressure part, the ones we use are just a U hook, they have them in all different sizes from ones for catching bait to like stated shark size.

Attach a lanyard to the pliers, some come with a hole for that purpose.  After loosing a few pairs to Pike we figured attaching them to the boat was the best option.
