Took the Mrs. out for a hike to my mushroom spot. Only found a few chanterelle buttons and a few other random mushrooms. We did however hike into my Reishi spot. Only harvested a couple to make tea and a tincture b079b3b72074673cc7e77660b1694095.jpg3da68dc0928c7fb44fa026aad20a81a3.jpgccfea28e9a5181fa6860c5d8348ae08c.jpg

First 2 are poisonous. Amanita muscaria var. guessowii
3rd one looks like a bi-color bolete which are delicious. Just make sure the spores on the underside of the cap are yellow and NOT red or orange.

"They do bear some resemblance to Boletus sensibilis which is poisonous. B. sensibilis bruises strongly blue immediately. B. subvetipes has orange or red pores and is also poisonous bruising strongly blue to blue-black immediately. Red and orange pored boletes should not be eaten. Beginners should also stay away from any strongly blue staining mushrooms".

How the hell can anyone ever hope to eat a mushroom when they all look the same and even the poisonous ones look like their non poisonous variants?

They're all edible once!
There are a dozen or 2 species that are pretty foolproof after enough time spent searching for them. Luckily their seasons are spaced out so that if the weather cooperates there is potential for finding some spring, summer and fall.
