More Cuomo stupidity

Recommended Posts

Andrew Cuomo, still busy trying to cover up his disastrous decision to push coronavirus-infected patients into nursing homes, has again demonstrated his incompetence by sending $69.1 million from New York's state treasury to a huckster in California.

Through 30 April, Cuomo had authorized a total of 77 checks for more than $1 million for medical appliances and supplies — most to companies with no experience producing those supplies, but the $69 million check was the largest single payment made by Cuomo's administration to any contractor for such supplies.

How did that happen?

Well, back in March, after President Trump had invoked the Defense Production Act to authorize GM and Ford to produce ICU ventilators, he posted a message on social media: "Start making ventilators now!" One of his 80,000 followers, a troll named Yaron Oren-Pines, who is a former employee of Google with no experience producing ventilators, posted a response: "We can supply ICU Ventilators, invasive and noninvasive. Have someone call me URGENT."

A few days before Trump's post, Cuomo had urgently claimed, "I need 30,000 ventilators — how can you have New Yorkers possibly dying because they can't get a ventilator?" One of his chief administrators heard about the social-media response, contacted Oren-Pines, and hastily signed a contract for 1,450 ventilators for $47,656 per unit — three times the cost of the best ventilators — and three days later sent him advanced payment.

According to New York's Office of General Services, it took a month for somebody to figure out this was a scam and, predictably, they blamed Trump for the Cuomo administration's incompetence. According to an unnamed New York state official, the contract was the result of a "direct recommendation" from the Task Force: "The guy was recommended to us by the White House coronavirus task force because they were doing business with him as well." But a quick check of federal records shows no contract with Oren-Pines.

A spokesperson for the Task Force, Katie Miller, rebutted that assertion: "The White House Coronavirus Task Force was never informed of this contract and was not involved in it at all."

Meanwhile, Cuomo hosted a press conference Monday, declaring that people who don't wear masks in public should be cited and penalized. "You wear a mask to protect me. I wear a mask to protect you," he insisted. "I think there should be a penalty because you could literally kill someone ... because you didn't want to wear a mask. How cruel and irresponsible would that be?" Cuomo was not wearing a mask at the briefing...

Focus on the word "penalize" that in Cuomo language is interpreted to mean a money maker for his fat government and wasteful social programs.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was hit with some well-deserved criticism after last week brought news that at least 5,400 COVID-19 deaths in the state have come from nursing homes. Back in March, in the early days of the China Virus pandemic, Cuomo issued an order mandating that nursing homes accept patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 rather than send them to hospitals. It was well known at the time that in Washington, one of the earliest states to experience the COVID-19 outbreak, nursing homes were hit especially hard. Cuomo's mandate was counterintuitive and deadly.

Ironically, back in April, Cuomo labeled nursing homes as "ground zero" for the pandemic, but he also used that label to criticize those nursing homes. "If they cannot provide that care, then they have to transfer the person to another facility," he said. "Those are the rules. They get paid to take care of a resident." And yet the governor's standing order required these same facilities to continue accepting infected patients, which resulted in a least 19 infected patients being sent from the hospital back to nursing homes.

The latest news is that New York officials have been fudging the statistics on the number of nursing-home patients that have died from the virus, as only deaths that occur at these long-term-care facilities are being recorded as nursing-home deaths. Any nursing-home resident who was infected at the facility and was then moved to a hospital and died within 24 hours has not been included in nursing-home death totals. New estimates of nursing-home deaths, including those sent to the hospital, add at least 1,700 to the total number. Cuomo's order spread the virus to the most vulnerable.

Cuomo's responses to the new criticism has been nothing but deflections. "People died. Older people, vulnerable people are going to die from this virus. That is going to happen despite whatever you do. You can have a situation where everyone did the right thing and everyone tried their best, and people still die," he lectured. "Look, people rationalize death in different ways. I don't think there was any logical rationale to say they would be alive today."

Interestingly, New York data also indicates that, far from preventing the spread of COVID-19, Cuomo's lockdown order did little to stop the spread at all. Some 66% of the new infections in the state came from people who were sheltering in place. Maybe Cuomo should have done more to focus on protecting and quarantining the most vulnerable rather than issuing a one-size-fits-all shutdown order.

Yeah, Cuomo is stupid.  And so is Trump.  If you think either of them know a damned thing about this virus and what will happen in the end you aren't too smart either.  It's all a guessing game by either of them and even the scientists.  No one has any real idea how this will all turn out in the end.

So we should all give up our rights because people who don't know anything want us too?  This virus seems to have the greatest effect on the gullible.

BTW, the leftist main stream media wants us to think one of them is doing a great job.  Real journalists would be reporting what's in this thread.

BTW, a reasonable thinking person would acknowledge some of the many screw ups by Trump, also.  I have yet to see you criticize him for anything, thus you are no different than the leftist main stream media that wants us to think one of them is doing a great job.  You are as blind to reality as they are.

It's just classic leftist misdirection trying to get folk's attention off of the subject.

BTW Steve, I don't support any individual.  I support positive action and positive results and condemn negative action and negative results.

"Stupidity" has been the Governor Andrew Cuomo way of ruining New York State throughout his terms in office as governor.

Notable acts of Cuomo's stupidity are many like more taxes, more government, more welfare programs and more crime.  One supreme act of stupidity is the SAFE Act.  This useless act of gun control has not served to reduce gun violence.  Cuomo and his supporters are either ignorant or completely stupid when it comes to the facts regarding the root causes of gun violence.  They probably do not understand what "root causes" mean.  With the stroke of a pen from a secret overnight meeting, Cuomo and his fellow politicians made many New Yorkers who were law abiding, peaceful and productive members of society criminals by owning a rifle that looked like something the military uses.

Funny how Cuomo and his supporters can crank out useless legislation overnight, but are unable to quickly fix real problems.  This pandemic has shown Cuomo to be a three ring circus master.  Ring #1 Cuomo complains people will die, but he supports abortion and releasing violent sociopaths back into society. Ring #2 Cuomo complains New York is broke, but has been taxing and recklessly spending money on his idiotic nonsense.  Ring #3 Cuomo complains about President Trump not doing enough, but what has Cuomo done to plan for mass disasters in New York  State?

Andy and his poop girl,AG have overstepped their legal bounds .
They tried some high pressure tactics on a suburban Buffalo law firm, now the law firm is going after both of the clowns.
He has caused catastrophic damage to numerous NYS businesses with his unlawful closures.
After all that he has done without any legal reason, their shouldn’t be any one left in the state to support him or his policies.
But we are in NY so I am sure there are plenty of morons left that believe in him.

Seems most Cuomo voters support him based on one issue, be it abortion, legal pot or bail reform.  They are willing to let everything else slide and still vote for him.  They pay a very high price for that one thing but apparently think it's worth it.

People who live in NY and other leftist blue states like NJ and Mass often think they live in a good state.  That's because they have never lived in a good state to know how bad they have it in comparison.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took in $2.3 million in campaign cash from the hospital and nursing home industry before signing legislation to provide legal immunity to healthcare executives in the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new report.

Cuomo quietly signed legislation last month shielding hospital and nursing home executives from the threat of lawsuits stemming from the pandemic, in a provision inserted into the annual budget, the Guardian reported.

It comes as Cuomo faces mounting criticism over the state’s staggering coronavirus death toll in nursing homes, which at more than 5,800 fatalities make up nearly a fifth of the state’s deaths.

The Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), a lobbying group for hospital systems including some that own nursing homes, bragged in a press release that it ‘drafted and aggressively advocated for’ the immunity provision.

The bill grants qualified immunity to hospitals, nursing homes, administrators, board members, physicians, nurses, and many other providers from civil and criminal liability arising from decisions, acts, and omissions occurring from the beginning of the Governor’s emergency declaration on March 7 through its expiration, and covers liability stemming from the care of individuals with and without COVID-19.

The immunity will not apply to intentional criminal misconduct, gross negligence, and other such acts but makes clear that acts, omissions, and decisions resulting from a resource or staffing shortage will be covered. The immunity will apply where the liability arises from harm or damages in connection with providing treatment that was impacted by a facility’s or professional’s decisions or activities in response to or as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and in support of the State’s directives.

Sure seems like a sweet deal for the hospital and nursing home executives. Look at what a good deal they got for a mere $2.3 million in campaign cash!

Perhaps it’s far easier and less expensive to buy politicians to get “favors” than it is to actually create something or try and compete fairly.

The more we learn about New York Governor Andrew Cuomo the worse it looks for him.

Team Cuomo quietly retreats from yet another nursing-home mistake

Once again, the state Health Department has tacitly admitted a major bungle in handling nursing homes amid the pandemic — even as Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Health chief Dr. Howard Zucker keep pretending they’ve been right all along.

The latest: A new state order tells homes in most of the state to test all staff for COVID-19 just once a week, rather than twice.

That follows Monday’s Post exposé of the fact that labs couldn’t process so many tests: Even by going to out-of-state private labs, homes were waiting weeks to get results.

Meanwhile, the burden was slowing labs’ work for other facilities — forcing hospitals to cancel surgeries because they couldn’t get test results within the legal window.

Of course, the twice-a-week mandate was simply a bid to show that the Health Department was serious about the crisis in the homes, which have seen more than 6,000 lives lost to the coronavirus, after Zucker’s outrageous March 25 order that the facilities admit infected patients — indeed, to not even test those sent from hospitals.

Cuomo hatchetman … er, spokesman Rich Azzopardi insists the testing delays are everyone else’s fault: “It’s up to the facility to work with their contracted labs to ensure they are getting results. Those who can’t will be held accountable.”

Can’t do the impossible? You’ll pay!

The real question is: Who will hold Zucker and Cuomo accountable?
