Just start with a straight tree ,they're everywhere.

With my Summit, I have actually re-hooked halfway up the tree. I've found a few trees with a good bend, or a limb that was too big to cut, and then unhooked the top, moved it to where I needed it, and then repeated for the platform. Not ideal, but not too hard if you have a tree that is where you want it.

If the difference between 10’ is a game changer do you cut all the limbs away to get your climber up?
Or do you un-hook And climb up to get around limbs?

I think you misunderstood...10’ away on the ground- like find another tree that is 10’ closer to where the deer are. 10’ may be a bit of hyperbole but the point is I often pick a “perfect tree” in September to only find its the wrong tree in October.

is yours noisy to setup?  I was on a piece of land onetime on the ground, guy came thru and never saw me and started going up a tree with a climber like 25 yards away.  I waved to him so he knew i was there and he came down tree and left.  I left too cause he might as well been banging a pot with a spoon it made so much noise.

That’s what I would worry about more  than anything : the noise . Guess it would be smart to practice setup a number of times prior to the season so that you’re smoother w it . Knowin me though , I d get one then wait till opening day to even look at it lol

To the OP. Here are my initial opinion of the Viper Mini.

Platform is about the same size as my hang on. The teeth are not pointed compared to my API. I am concerned that it might not bite as solidly as I'd like on hardwoods, but should be fine for pines. I reversed the carry strap from what the instructions said, and I will try it that way. If not working as I hope it is easy enough to change around. Not sure I like the carry straps anyway, so might change those. If the teeth don't bite like they should, I may grind them to more of a point. I'll try climbing a tree on the weekend and update if there is anything to update.b4c5e08bda555b3ba50325f028924f00.jpg2a11da03cc2ac3e5747fd50c1e7b0bcd.jpgd66f0b062096bcd4c792892d9d45b3a6.jpgc450b39649aa575f59672855e2953765.jpg

I'd be leery of grinding on a new stand..........ANYTHING fails on it and you're left whistling Dixie.

I have 3rd hand straps on the API that I just purchased last month that will be transferred to the Summit...assuming the API will be semi-retired. You can just about see them at the base of the stand. If I like them I will buy another set.

I am. Not something I want to do. I bought an X-stand that had similar blunt teeth that I tried once and could not return that stand to the store fast enough. I had to pay shipping, which was half the cost of the stand, but I could not in good conscience sell it to anyone as I regard it as unfit for use at any height. Just my opinion of course.

I never saw those before and like them but not sure they are necessary. I always take one of my “backpack” straps and tether the two pieces together at the base of the tree. When I get to where I want to be I’m a tree I lock in the top portion to the tree with a strap to avoid the top part falling accidentally.

Also I couldn't get rid of that seat fast enough and replace with a Hazmore

Haven't tried the summit seat yet. It is bulky like the API, which I am used to , but sits lower, so I may look at the Hazmore. Thanks. I like the padded back on the API for lounging. But the API is like a penthouse suite compare to the the Summit. I don't have a padded back on my hang on so I expect I can live without it on the Summit.

I haven't had any issue with disloging the upper part of the API accidentally, in the years that i have used it withour the stabilizer straps, but could see how that could happen especially with a smaller stand like the mini.

The funny thing is that Summit has sold stands with those teeth for how many years now and they seem to be working out pretty good.  You think you have a better idea though.......OK.

The API teeth are definitely way more aggressive but I think the summits still bite in well enough
