Hang in there. By one of our stands at 4:40 yesterday afternoon. Can happen anytime.

i'm not discouraged in the least. People i know are seeing and dropping bucks. I had a tough year last year so it feels like extra self imposed pressure that's all. But if it was easy it wouldn't be so rewarding.

My dad hunting about 200 yards from me last night saw 2 nice shooter doe, a bb and small 6 all within 15 yards. Man this thing sometimes...

Now all you need is a 55 gallon drum of buck urine and you'll have yourself the world largest mock scrape

I zig, they zag. I zag, they flip me off.

In and ready before light. Sat until around 9 and didn't see or hear anything. While checking the area I found two piles of fresh scat, one behind the blind I made yesterday, and one right next to it. Also found another scrape that wasn't there yesterday.

On the way out I decided to skirt the opposite side of the field from my normal route. I turn a corner and come face to face with a deer. Bow in hand and release in my pack strapped on my back. It takes off, following the trail, not through the woods, down the frikin' hiking trail. I get out my phone and start recording. I catch it through some shrubs licking it's 4$$. I keep walking, turn another corner and it bounds off. I know I know, I should have gotten my release out of my pack instead of grabbing the phone, shoulda-woulda-coulda. I listen and hear it going through the leaves and decide to get the release out and try a stalk. It went into some nasty stuff and I couldn't follow. If I was sitting in the spot I had been early in the season I would have filled my bow tag. I'm pretty sure it was a doe, but did have some odd brown coloring in it's head between the ears. At this point it would not have mattered to me. I just want something in the freezer!

Well this is disheartening. I felt like my shot was good on the buck this am but chalked it up to hitting a unseen branch it missed him by so much. Just got back to the house and set up a target at 30 yards. Missing it completely low right... shot the bow last week it was good, havent shot it this week...sooooo mad at myself, not sure when it got bumped good enough to be off a foot left and a foot low at 30. Checked cams on the way in and got pics of a real good one i hope to redeem myself on.

Well, sighting it in, eating some lunch and heading back out.

I know hunting is a waiting game but this is getting very frustrating. Haven’t seen much movement and when I do they are here and gone in seconds.

Leaf blowing those trails is one of the best things I’ve ever started doing . At first it was two, fold ,guests wouldn’t have to be walked to the stands, and I figured a quiet walk in , would be a bonus .

Well, tracks will appear in them tonight , and some will walk right down them , I guess deer like to be quiet too ! But best of all is not just getting to the stands silently in the dark, but when on them in daylight you can get pretty damn, close to the deer . There’s often deer in the green field when I leave , I used to know because I’d see tails bounding away, now I can walk right out to the field edge and they have no clue .

Out this am early and forgot phone at home. Beautiful red dawn sunrise. No action at all except some squirrels. Looks like does had hit acorns overnight with a lot of fresh leaves turned up. No fresh rubs or scrapes found. Spot looks promising. Need to scout a little, probably in offseason, to find out where they are bedding.

Home for quick lunch maybe a snooze and out to new public land to change up for the luck for the evening.

Congrats to those that scored and good luck to all.

Should be an extra 1-2 pts for traditional kill!

Hail mary full of grace....

Trying a new public spot for a change of pace. Overlooking a hollow between two oak ridges. Hoping something tries to cool off in the valley before some munchies. Don't know this spot for deer, but I scored a tom in the same spot last spring. Not really in a great position to shoot from, but good vantage for an observation sit.

Good luck to all. f5a1ccfe34c006fac45cacf2586b9e0c.jpg
