I’m not going to escalate this conversation further, but just want to point out one key point. That,  is the difference between my original Verbiage  “hundreds to thousands dead”, somehow being changed into Crappy’s internet “fake news” version of  “Hundreds to thousands of reported.”

That’s a huge difference, But for fun Let’s do some simple math.  50 plus found dead in cold spring ( by Two guys) 25 dead on one farm in goshen,  40 in rock tavern by ( 3 guys) 13 found dead along 400 yards of creek In fishkill by (1 guy), 30 plus on another rd in Goshen, then adding all the mystery deaths that are happening all over the place.  Which happen to be coinciding with a rare EHD outbreak...

that’s over 150 known dead right there. Found by a very few people, on a minuscule portion of the land known to be affected.  So, for every one deer found , how many are unfounded?

anyone that spends any time in Orange County, knows we have swamps in almost every section of woods,  and once a deer goes in , good luck finding.   Just something to think about..drive down the rd in areas of and 3m In evening with your windows down.. there’s dead all over, that will never be accounted. Many hundreds to thousands

I believe  you was riding down the back road of maybrook smelt so bad

Wow...every buck I have seen today driving the Taconic (3S, 3N,4Y) and on cameras are hard horned and without velvet. Odd that yours still is in full velvet/ And that dead head would be a cool find during shed season- actually the coloration of the skull and 1 horn reminds me of a dead head find that was partially buried.
The cold snap should have helped no?

Are you a forensics professional? Obviously, you know nothing about how decay works. Things, like moisture, exposure to sun, wildlife.. etc have a huge effect on the rate of decay.

actually, this whole experience has enlightened me greatly, in that respect.

smh... guy drives up and down the taconic in his KIA and thinks he knows everything about the deer herd..

Actually to bone it still take months. And this has been studied intensely

three to four months

“Then it takes a long time for them to decay past that. In shaded areas, after three to four months, they become a skeleton.” In general — though not always — he's found that bodies decompose faster in hotter, more humid climes than in colder, drier spots.Oct 31, 2013

Yes, I have a question.....why are these carcasses not devoured to the bone? Are they in a a different climate than the tidal waters and 80-90 degree temps of Putnam?
Wait!!!! Today was 35 degrees when I arrived at the property in Columbia.

A KIA!!! Don’t you know the HuntingNY sponsor vehicle is the Subaru!

I am not a forensic professional but G-Man is close with his base experience. It also doesn’t take a Forensic specialist to spot tomfoolery.

What DID the DEC say to your recent finds?

Why aren’t they devoured to the bone? Uhh.. maybe they just died within the last couple days? Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?

or do you want me to go back into the woods, my next day off, to take a picture of a near pile of bones, that was fresh intact body that I had previously posted...

if you need further embarrassment lmk..

No, under velvet is stuff called “bone” when the soft velvet decays, the “bone” will be exposed . Racks are Near fully formed by early August.

Have something Dead, lay in a swamp exposed, to moisture, sunlight and maggots, (not buried) you will have a pile of bones in 30 days.

And now for a history lesson

picture from the battle of pelileu...

hmmm 3-4 months to make a skeleton?

i guess According to Huntingny, all the Japanese soldiers were dead before the marines landed, since the marines couldn’t have possibly found skeletons in less than that time.

Yes. As someone who hunts 3N. What town? I hunt Mahopac, Carmel and haven’t found anything. Nothing in Yorktown (3S) yet either.

Considering if was underwater the fly larva would drown , 3 to 5 days of feeding of larva after hatching 8 to 48 hours after laying still take a month minimum to clean bone.

No offence but if this has been going on for several months , you are finding deer that may of died in june or july..   again report to dec. I have not seen an official update from them and if is as bad as you say then I would expect one,

As for election my area of state never votes blue. Your area is the problem..

I don’t take offense from you. Since from your armchair, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I peeled the remaining strip of velvet off the rack.. go back to forensics school.

I never questioned the hardhorn, most buck racks are mineralized by later july.early.august,  I did take exception to it took a week.

I  would suggest you put a newspaper in your photos or a piece of.paper with date on it.  If you want to quell the questions.   Personally I hope every.one is shown to dec.   My only issue was the rate of decay claimed. Many have to be from several months ago is all I am saying but dead is dead
