I was wondering if you shoot a deer and make a poor shot and leave the deer over night and it is the last day of the deer season can you legally tag the deer if you find it the next day? do you report it as the last day of the season or the day you tagged it? Would you get in trouble for calling in a deer after the season date? What if its 2 or 3 days after the season until you find the deer?

I doubt any deer that layed in the woods with its guts in would be good after 24 hours no matter how cold it has been. Doesnt take long for decomp to start with guts in and blood pooling. As to your previous question, If you find deer next morning after season I'm not sure. I would say what they dont know wont hurt them. Unless its on stateland then I would seek guidance from an game officer. I'm sure they would give permission to recover.

never ran into a last day situation but in 2000 had a friend hit a doe on a tuesday and didn't recover it till satwhen the snow melted down. we got over 5' of snow and yes the meat was still good it was frozen and gutting it was different removing the organs in one big block..
