Standard Transmissions...How many can operate one ??

My first car was a stick, I’ve owned a few since then and have no issues with them. Today’s automatics are better in just about every application though. Faster too. One of my buddy’s has a Hellcat identical to mine with the exception that it’s a 6 speed. He knows how to shift that car but can’t beat mine unless I break traction. That being said, when I end up buying a second fun car, it will be a manual. They are fun on different levels than autos.

My wife’s cousin who,owns the farm I hunt has one arm ,due to a farming accident . He drives and operates everything imaginable. Works his ass off as well ,he’s and inspiration really .

The term "standard" hasn't really applied in a long, long, long time. :D

I learned how to drive one in my sleep. Honest.

We owned several in trucks when I was younger but I never drove them. Then I bought my first car, a three speed. Two nights in a row I dreamt I was driving one of the trucks. After that I got up one morning and drove my car like I'd been doing it a long time.

IH made standards (farmalls), and automatics (cub cadets).

Other than tractors, it has been a long time since I drove a standard.  The last one I had was a 5-liter Ford mustang, that my brother in law gave me for a field car, about 10 years ago.  

My mother in law has a newer, standard Jeep 2-door, that I would like to drive.   I wouldn't want one as my daily driver, but they are fun for occasional use.

When all vehicles go electric will we still call it a gas pedal or accelerator? I think it's cool you can call it a standard and people still know what it means.

Had a firebird with limo tint windows in 88 I believe. Wife then girlfriend and I drove across the border to go to Clifton hill for lunch. She decided she wanted to learn how to drive a stick. So I let her. Upon ascending the hill with hundreds of pedestrians sightseeing around. The car started rolling back on the incline. She panicked , popping the clutch and hammering the gas. We now are doing a smoke show with everyone looking at us. Tinted windows or not / embarrassing. Last time she drove that car. I also had a 91 Escort GT that definitely had some pep for a little car.  Loved going first to third gear . Got stuck in traffic in Toronto. Sucked ! Last manual I owned

It has the same launch control as the F1 cars.

I didn't use it, but the owner did.WOW.

Been in fast cars on track at Watkins Glen and Lime Rock as a passenger with a pro driving. Drove a relative's Porsche's a few times on the street and borrowed a clients to run into town.

Totally different league. True super car.

Stupid fast and stupid brakes to stop it at ridiculous distances.

I don’t care if it’s a Ferrari or Porsche. Those cars are designed for manual transmission.
Paddle shifters are lame.
Granted the car will always shift better than you but come on, how can ya drive that beast in automatic.
I have a 911 and no way would I drive an automatic one.
Unfortunately, becoming harder to find them in manual.
Btw - love Watkins Glenn, that track is insane.
Limerock is cool too.
NJMS - thunder track is cool.
Used to go to many track events.
Done.
Rather hunt and enjoy my property.

Learned the basics on a Ford 8N farm tractor, my next few cars and one truck were all stick starting with a 1960 MGA, a 1967 Volkswagon Beetle, a 1967 Pontiac GTO, a 1968 Corvette and a Toyota HiLux Pickup. From then up to now all my cars and trucks were automatics.

Have rode motorcycles for years and I guess they are considered standard shifting along with a couple of more farm tractors including my current one that are and were stick.

Learned to drive a standard on the farm when I was 12-13 years old.

Have had numerous vehicles over the years with standard transmissions, and have a Class A CDL with no restrictions (I know people who have taken the road test in a vehicle with an automatic transmission or no air brakes.)

Back in the day, I had to learn all these techniques without the ease of You tube....
