Deer are scarce

My son , who lives in Honeoye Falls , called to tell me that he had 18 deer in his back yard . He said the most he had previously was about 12 .

I hear the same from a local that there are no deer around, then tonight i saw 24 or so in a field 2 miles from his house...

Depends where you live and hunt. Residential areas are loaded with deer around my area.But if you go in the woods in some of the places where I hunt , you wont see a deer or a track for days.

umm deer yard up in the winter. Even though it is a mild winter, they still yard up and do not move much. Find a der yard, you will find deer.

Too many hunters think seeing deer or not seeing deer is a reflection of the actual population.. nothing is farther from the truth... for every 10 deer you didn't see last hunting season, someone else saw 20 and vice versa... seeing deer and not seeing deer is more a reflection of what you are doing or not doing as a hunter and sometimes just plain dumb luck.

I live in the country where my huge yard backs up to several hundred acres of woods and I have never seen a deer in my yard in 20 years... using the "I haven't seen any deer" theory... I would have to conclude that there are no deer behind my house... yet I have taken many deer in the woods behind my home over the last 20 years... as for changes in amount of deer seen year to year... habitats change, travel patterns change, nothing ever stays the same.

there have been 11 to 17 out back in field every other night for the past wk. last night there were 3 playing back corner of our yard. the moon was pretty bright and that made it nice to watch

It is quite common to go 1/4 mile west of my son's property and see 30+ deer in a field in the summertime . The farmer won't let anyone hunt that property though .
