10/10: hunted the acorn flat in 3N where my Spartan cell cam is this morning till 10am. At 705am had a spike come in under 15 yards. He looked identical spike rack to the one from last night on cam. Anyway, I took videos, but can only attach screenshot. On the way I kicked up a lone bedded deer but unfortunately couldn’t see the head. Found fresh rubs that weren’t here last Sunday and few others bucks on cam.

10/15: quick hunt before work in 3S was awesome this morning.

655am a Long nose doe came in. She Under 5 yards for a full 10min. I almost shot her when it was 7am because it was lone deer and figured buck was then finally light enough to see no rack. I took video but can’t post so here’s a screen shot. I watched her drift away and at 725am she joined up with another full size doe and a fawn. The 2 does and Fawns finally drifted out of sight.

At 745am I almost got a shot at a great buck. He came in straight on and at one point was only 20yds but in heavy stuff. His rack was dark chocolate and very long tines. I couldn’t see brows so he was huge 6 or nice 8. But the tines were really long. I was at full draw but just didn’t have an opening and didn’t want to force it. He slowly drifted away to 50yds and then out of sight. I checked cam before leaving and he’s been on it several days recently. Including yesterday morning following a smaller buck. Too bad he didn’t come that way like yesterday or id have had a an easy 25yd shot in the open. I’m sick to my stomach but also very exciting. A really cool buck maybe the darkest rack I’ve seen in NY. Also a pic of the heavy brush he came through and the doe I passed up. 4fff2bbcb4dc82d437687067bee3b346.jpg

I usually only hunt this spot on weekdays. Probably hunt 3N on sunday, but we'll see.

Perfect “front shirt pocket” shot, no?

Nope. I wasn't ground level with him. I was roughly 15 feet up on rock bluff, so the angle would not have been good. Plus he didn't have his head up. It was straight or down eating leaves off branches. I would have had better chance at shooting him between the eyes than getting it under his nose to the chest.

Hoping you get that one this year. That is a cool buck. And he seems to be there a lot.

I’m thinking he is playing with you….

A few September pics of him but nothing in October since 10/1. Hopefully he’s back to stay. I’ll likely hunt there tomorrow PM
