This is great, felt like I was there! I’ve  caught 1 bonefish (as a kid) with a spinning rod and live shrimp off Key Biscayne.
We were actually musing over potential summer trips the other night and fly fishing for permit has risen to the top of my next up list. Not sure if this would be the best way to learn to fly fish but my lady wasn’t digging a Maine backcountry summer getaway.

Nothing is impossible, but permit would be a tough fish to learn on. Take a look at the trip booker https://www.yellowdogflyfishing.com/ for inspiration and details on worldwide fishing, including a number of couple-oriented lodges.

Here's the crocodile video I mentioned in the article. That strip of sand the kid is swimming toward is where I was fishing. When the shot pans up you can see the break in the trees that you have to swim across to get to the better flat. Wasn't feeling it.
