I have never split a 44 mag case that way . I did have problems with crimp in the beginning. I aparently didn't flare enough and had didnt get adequate  tension. My rcbs dies require a decent flare in order to get a decent rolled crimp on the xtp. Even more evident when crimping on 300 grn xtp.

Funny how different manufacturers are , on my Lee dies if I flare too much it will catch on the bullet seat die.
