Day trip ideas?

Me and the wife are looking to get away for the weekend.  I know theres not much to do with snow on the ground.  We thought about wine tours but I drink maybe 12 beers in a year.   Thinking of just going to turning stone.

Looking anywhere in upstate NY, somewhere maybe in PA.  NYC doesn't interest me at all.

I'm open to all ideas.

Lake placid is a cool town with some things to see.

Wife and I went there a couple times ,just driving around you can find find cool spots to just pull over and check out the scenes or take a hike. Beautiful area.

Skaneateles in the finger lakes is a nice day trip visit. Lots of shops, and places to eat. My wife loves it there.

Cooperstown, even in the off season is still a fun place to go. Plenty to see in all the shops. The bakery on the corner is always a must stop for us.

Alot to do around Niagara Falls. Viewing the falls/visitor center, Buffalo has a great zoo (polar bears!), Cabelas and the Seneca Casino right near the falls. It is an easy w/e getaway without too much driving.

Last year pre covid we went down to PA. A bit more driving, but we really enjoyed Valley Forge, Cabelas has a big store, Amish country, etc. Philadelphia has alot to do also...of course the normal historic stuff, but the Philadephia Art Museum is amazing, and it is easy to spend a whole day there. The ancient Eastern State Penitentiary was somewhere the wife wanted to see (ghosts, etc.) but it was fascinating. Heck , we have discovered that it is possible to jsut pick a direction and a destination, then google the local chamber of commerce for events/etc. and it is always easy to find a good time. So much the better if the weather is good.

I second @Daveboone. I lived in and around Philadelphia for 10 yrs. 3.5 hr easy drive and you'll be in the middle of it all.

I'd put Boston on the list too. Same category as Philadelphia but a different feel to the whole place.

Nice thing about going to the city is that your options are pretty limitless. Food, shopping and activities of all kinds are right out your doorstep.

Sent the wife your opinions looks like we are going to Niagara falls for a day trip/weekend to ourselves.    I've never been so it will be fun.  Sure we can find something to do.

Too bad you cant get on the canadian side right now,the view of the falls from there is much better. My wife and i stopped there just about a year ago on our way back from Toronto. Last trip before the shutdown.

Great choice! A couple summers ago, we went out that way to visit some HNY members. We took a day to see the falls and it was fun! Also close by, there is an indoor mall with tons of shops that the Mrs. might like? I think I may have picked up some hunting socks or gloves there too???

you didn't say where you are starting from. Poconos in PA can be fun, Crystal Springs resort in NJ also. Again, not sure where you are leaving from

I will pay you $100 to wrap Biz's truck in cellophane so he can't get in and has to spend all day unravelling it. In fact, I'll double it to $200 for your wife, as well. That way you can enjoy some quality time making someone's day a little brighter.

40mins north of Binghamton so just about as center of the state as possible.  Shes already booked the hotel so Niagara this time and maybe one of the other places later this year or next year.

How's Caverns if they are open. Took the family once and a FAT woman got stuck ahead of us. We went back and yelled for hot butter to get her out. Kids never forgot about that.

We plan on taking kids there this year since it's not to fat from us.  I'll make sure I bring some butter. Lol
