Late checking in. My streak for seeing deer every sit since Saturday is still going. Saw seven deer today. Five flat heads, two small bucks. Back out for a morning hunt tomorrow.

Congratulations to today's successful hunters!!!

Good luck to all hunting Thanksgiving Day!

She had rocks in her belly like a Yorktown deer.  No agricultural for miles….

Yorktown has 10+ farms. I think you have your geography confused. But they do have cliffs too. All of the Hudson Valley is loaded with rock cliffs and rapid elevation changes.

So, this guy was a real warrior. There were three of us hunting my buddies property, two carrying shotguns and me with the 25-06. The landowner spotted this buck about 80 yards out and knocked it down with the first shot but it got back up and was limping off so he kept shooting. He got out of his stand to chase it and kept shooting, knocking it down two more times. Meanwhile, I got out of my stand to try and cut it off but it turned and crossed the field where a young hunter on the adjoining property shot at it twice when it ran right under him, also knocking it down. My buddy caught up to it but couldn’t get a shot. I set up next to a brush lot opposite all the action and got lucky when I heard the deer coming through the brush. I knelt down and spotted him as he stuck his head and shoulders out of the brush. Neck shot dropped him right there. Finally tally was 17 shots. 14 from the first shooter, two from the neighbor kid and one from me. The buck had an injured front foot that was misshapen and caused his limp. Scars from fighting all along his back and neck and a gouge below his eye. The Swiss Buck, as in Swiss Cheese from all the shots. One antler tine shot off, lower jaw shot off, shoulder shot, grazed under the front leg, neck shot and my kill shot in the neck.
Nothing pretty about this one but it’s hanging in the barn after a real fight.

Congrats, the neighbor who shot 14 times should never hunt again and take up another hobby

After knocking it down twice in the first four shots, he got down from his tree stand and went after it. Kept getting close and trying to put it down but a smooth barrel 870 isn’t the ideal weapon for shooting distance. I appreciate the fact that he doggedly pursued the buck after hitting it across about a half mile total. I was surprised that he had that many slugs in his pack. I asked him afterwards if his pack or his wallet was lighter after firing 14 rounds..

This year I had been looking forward to the minnesota rifle season, and I had gotten my first bow last winter and had been practicing for months, after I robbin hooded two of my arrows at 45 yards I decided I was ready to start hunting. I never had been much for a bow hunter but I thought I should try it. I had most of the gear already I just needed to get some broad heads. After two days I had on a bonus tag I got a nubin buck at 15 yards. I was so happy. Then two weeks later I went to northern minnesota and did our rifle season with my family. Nov. 6th opening morning for our area, I sat on what we call the bee hill and saw many deer but couldn't get a good shot at any, then a nice doe came in and just stopped and looked right at me, for about 45 minutes she looked around and milled around out in front of me. At this point I am getting cold and wanted to warm up so I put her down. Went home had lunch and went back out for our evening hunt, I wasn't sitting for 5 minutes and deer started coming out all around me. From 1:25pm to 3pm ish I saw deer none stop. But no good sized bucks so I waited, then a little four point came out and was moving slow but wouldn't stop. Tell he got in some brush but I could see his head, so I was about to take my shit then he looked back and took off. In my head I was thinking crap, so I lowered my rifle. The moment my eye passed over my scope I saw white under a pine tree, so I looked down my scope again and all I saw was horns over one of the pine branches. Here came a 8 point buck with the mass to be a good freezer filler. So I put him down. After I shot I texted my who I was hunting with on that part of our land and told them buck down, before I could put my phone away. There was a mature doe sanding right where I shot the buck, so I shot her as well. So all and all I had a very successful rifle hunting season and my bow hunting is still active. Hahaha, my dad thinks I am trying to take his title of puting five deer down in one year, when really I want to make sausage. But so far I have only gotten four so we shall see.
