[Cabin Fever]

Working from home today. Woke up to about an inch of snow, but by the time I get out to the tree stand this afternoon, it will probably all be melted.

Saw my owl again. He came into 40-50 yards sat for a second and swooped down to get something. Never saw him fly off. On to the afternoon nap in the treestand.

I don't hunt close to any houses.  I can see it would make sense in a suburban setting, or if you hunt at night.  Seems unnecessary to me in most situations.

No just took him to the processor who was severely backed but does a great job.  Didn’t want to bother him to weigh him right then but would guess 160lbs a pretty stout 3 yr old me thinks.  
Here’s a snapshot of how busy they are after 1 day. 

Just a side note, if you care about your antlers, wipe the blood off as soon as you’re done. The blood left to dry will stain and make it a bitch to get out as it’s the antlers are porous.

I’m a firm believer in this. I have had past years where I’ve hunted hard like you… well maybe not that hard but still. It becomes a grind and like work and that’s not why we do this.

Even taking Sunday off after the long opening day I was so excited to get up and out.

This year seems strange to me.. Some people are up to their eyeballs in deer, while other's (including myself) can't seem to find any. I know this happens every year, but the divide seems more pronounced this year. I'm starting to get discouraged, having sat 16 times and approaching 80 hours in the stand without seeing much. With that said, this fresh dusting of snow and cold weather moving in is too good to pass up. I'll be back at it starting tomorrow morning. I have Wed - Sun off, so should be able to put some time in. Now if only the deer would cooperate...

Not at all. There are a whole lot of choices on Amazon. Search for wood stove fan. I have also seen them in a couple of fireplace supply stores.

I bought one from Northern Tool a couple of years ago and paid way too much.

Deer finally seen .passed up 2 doe and and a 4 point .Got a new target for the season though .First pic ive got

Nope and I was mentioning your recipe as I put it in the ziplock bag I remembered to grab on my way out the door. Buck heart was slightly shot damaged, doe heart is intact. Got 3 in a bag. It’ll be 2.5 after discarding the shot part. Trying your recipe tonight. 
 

Edit, actually it is in the pile in that pic. I grabbed them after putting the deer on the tractor.

Walked in about 5:45 and back out at noon. The only tracks I saw in the snow must have been from early this morning (2-3 o'clock) nothing new on the way out. I'm grabbing a bite to eat, fresh socks and heading back out until dark.

Saw fresh tracks this am and pulled cards and left for an hour and a half. Was gonna go to a different stand but this boy was here at 2 am. Hoping he's on a 12 hr return !

Wife and daughter are out for the afternoon hunt. I’m on “watch” in my living room with youngest grandson, baby Cameron. Orange hat off, Cammy cries. Orange hat on, Cammy smiles. Mandatory orange requirement in the house now, lol.
