Clover now?

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a field in front of my box blind about 3 acres
The land to the east is a huge woods, land to the south is an ag field of soybeans, land to the west is a 125 ft wide by 300 ft kind bedding shrub .
Land to the north is goldenrod,
I’d like to sow clover on my 3 acres but do like strips of clover and leave strips of tall goldenrod..
Could I just tear it up with my tractor bucket and broadcast spread ?
Doing the strips would it make the deer feel secure to come out during the day ?

Instead of strips create a plot in the middle of the golden rod and create shooting lanes for different wind directions.

Think of it like spokes in a wheel with the hub being the plot.

But I would need a path leading into the plot ??

Remember the path or trails you cut into the plot is what the deer will use it  , so plan those accordingly and dont cut them in a straight line, have twists and turns in them.

Wonder how big I should make the plot and if I can just broadcast the seed

Your easiest way if you dont have equipment is to let it green up, once green and growing, spray your anticipated clover strips with gly. Spread your clover seed over it (with Oats or Wheat) and pack it in. shortly before rain.   You can do this all in 1 day as well.
