Been awhile since I’ve been on. Life just got in the way. Got my 2020 gun buck back yesterday. I’m pretty stoked on how it turned out too. Thanks again Gman for allowing the opportunity at him. Trail cam pics are a nice addition having a little history with him knowing he was out there somewhere. After burning myself out during archery and seeing nothing but forks , spikes and not even a doe inside 30 yards I was getting humbled pretty quick. Opening day of gun I had a doe n 2 fawn at 90 yards or so with no shot. Left at 10:15 am. 2nd day of gun I turned off the 4 am alarm. Woke up at 7:30. Gman text me “ fresh snow “ with a pic. Well crap , love how deer stand out in the snow. And always noticed that first good snow deer get wonky and on their feet. Arrive at Greg’s at 10 or so. Take a long slow walk back to a wooden platform stand. Kicked up two tails on the way , neither were in a huge hurry. Fresh tracks all along the way too. Climb up wooden ladder. Take out bow hook to screw in tree to hang gun. Detach seat pad attached to backpack. Go to sit down and gun still swinging on tree. My ass not even sitting yet. Crunch crunch crunch to my left and behind me. I peer quickly and see horns .I don’t know if he’s a nice 6 , an 8 or a 10 . Just know he’s not getting a pass . I quickly grab gun as he’s now coming up hill and to my left. I give him a bwaaa to try and lock him up from a slow trot. He does at 30-35 yards. Flip the scope covers up. Put the Leupold 2.5x8 right behind the front shoulder. Squeeze the trigger and no bueno. SOB ... thumb safety! Flip the safety off as he starts a slow trot again , bwaaa again. He stops for a half second. Kaboom. Mule kicks and runs not far at all. I see him pile up and still have the gun ready as I racked another one into the tube of the Savage axis 2 in 7mm08. I quick call Greg ( one of the few stands with phone reception) and cool long distance view of Cuba lake. “Big buck down “ I say. Never taking my eyes off deer. He later said he could hear it in my voice it was a great one. I climb down and finally get to lay my eyes on the prize. Holy crap I said. He’s a beautiful deer indeed. Greg drives out the wheeler and I’m still in shock. Gave him a hug and and a thank you for allowing me to hunt his place and shoot such a wonderful buck. Couple other guys / friends show up to see deer and congratulate me. That day is so fresh in my mind. And now he’s here to remind me. I can’t stop staring at him. Been fishing a bit too. Bought a new 2021 Subaru Outback onyx xt ( turbo ) not long ago. Two weeks later I hit a deer doing 55 mph. Thing was trucking like getting chased by a coyote. $5k damage and got it back yesterday. Hope you’ve all been doing ok. Counting days til my happy place . The turkey woods. I could use it right now. 799f12ca28d888d491424f6f1fbf5851.jpg
