The nest in the ceiling was a pain, but didn't last long once we discovered it. However, the ground nest by the pool stuck around until it got cold. They had 4-5 holes, and we just never could get them knocked out. My father-in-law's favorite activity when they visited last summer was sitting on the deck, drinking beer and shooting them with wasp spray when they came out of the ground. I've never seen him enjoy himself so much. Should hit Biden with wasp spray every time he comes out of his basement...while drinking a beer. Man, I’ve been bushwhacking off trail with impunity all summer. Reminds me of my carefree treks into rattlesnake country until my dog decided to go after one. This sort of thing makes you want to reel it in until the fall….something there about ignorance and bliss Not sure, I think it has something to do with mating or protection of the queen. But they become aggressive late Aug around here and will attack if you walk too close. And the hornets will follow you a long way which means multiple stings if your on foot.

If the DEP doesn't close on the Broadlands that would be an amazing spot for a farm, be it cows or bees.

I'm rethinking the plan now....
left field
I'm pretty torn. 125 acres split by a road. 60 acres is mostly forest with a few hay fields. I could not walk that for years and be fine with the other parcel. The main 65 acre section has an old farmhouse with new insulation, heat, walls, ceilings. Needs new bathrooms and kitchen, porch and aluminum siding replaced with clapboard. I figure 100K. One killer three level hay/animal barn with stalls clean and ready, and an attached wooden silo in good shape. One very cool two level carriage barn. Garage, smaller barn and various sheds need to be torn down. I estimate 30K to tear down, salvage and bury debris. Pond needs to be redug and expanded - 20k? Need a utility tractor and ATV - 30k? One of the major stumbling blocks are the power and phone lines/poles that need to be buried. They are located in a very shitty place, because the property slopes down and each has their own pole line - the cans are located at eye level to the ground floor. If the tel co agreed to combine with the the electric company I would be looking at burying both for a run of either 600 or 900 feet at $29/ft plus excavation costs. So about 20K or 30K. 200K plus purchase price to make it very liveable. And I'm old. Does honey sell for 10,000 a pint?

That should pay for the entire job in 1 season. Really, the money we spend on lodging up is outrageous. left field
Could I interest you in a timeshare? It's in the watershed so I could conceivably sell the wooded section to the DEP.

Jeremy K
When i was a kid the neighbor had a giant one in her tree and said to stay clear she had a guy coming to remove it. Being that it was summer vacation and we were kids we took that as an invite to destroy it with any means necessary. By the time she got home that day we had hit it with everything we could manage to throw that high in the tree. and basically destroy it.
