New York law phases out most gas-powered vehicles by 2035

The article states “New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation on Wednesday that resembles California’s, and would effectively ban sales of new, internal combustion engine cars and trucks in the Empire state by 2035.”

Obviously Hochul is not interested in addressing the real problems in New York State like expensive state government, high taxes, high crime, drug addition, failed public schools, wasteful social programs and many other problems that reduce the quality of life in New York State.

The article states “The New York legislation follows an earlier effort in California where Governor Newsom signed an executive order to ban sales of new, internal combustion engine light-duty vehicles in the state by 2035.”

Hochul is trying to keep up with the disaster state of California?

The news has reported that Hochul does support many of the policies of former Governor Andrew Cuomo who was a disaster for New York State.  Nothing changes to improve New York State except for listening to Cuomo’s rants like “YOU DON’T NEED TEN BULLETS TO KILL A DEER!”

Well, there's a lot of people who piss and moan about ATV's being loud and scaring the game away. So if they go electric I guess those people will have to find something else to cry about. There won't be anymore gas pumps either, so I guess there won't be any moaning about seeing a hunter pump gas in his hunting clothing.

So it sounds like this might stop the shortage of Kleenex.

Working in the auto industry,  and being one of the few certified to repair plug in cars it is going to be interesting.  There already is a lack of quality technicians in the field.

Battery powered cars will eliminate alot of maintenance for the consumer,  but will increase problems on the technical end. I would say 75% of people who want to be technicians can not even work their way through a simple 12 volt system on vehicles today. It amazes me how many work in the automotive industry and have no concept of how to read a wire diagram, or how current flows. Getting into 600 volt vehicles, additional modules, computer programming,  it will be a disaster at the repair level.

They are doing their best to turn NYS into an empty state. It may turn out that even I will be driven from my home state by the lefties. They are working very hard at it.

It’s crazy Doc . We had 6 couples / families visit this year who have moved out of NYS . We went to two, parties this summer  for two others that are leaving , today at lunch with my sister I,learned my niece just bought a place in Tenn. and is relocating. My sisters ,sister in law is also leaving , her parents also just left .

A couple we play cards with once a month just sold their home and are moving to NC, another couple who we only see when our friends who moved to Tenn. come up are also leaving .

My other sister is making their Fla home their “ official “ residence selling their large home here and buying a small one for the summers , my hunting partner is doing the same thing for now , but may move full time if their daughter will move her family down .

About every couple weeks we learn of someone we know leaving .

It is only family that is keeping me here right now. But if they start messing with my basic transportation, I won't really have any choice. I can't afford government experiments in the way I get around. The Democrats have a habit of cutting off supplies and procedures before the technology is ready to go forward. This is just another example. I can't afford Democrats.

I know it was a rainy summer but i didn't think the weather was that bad here....

California will cease to allow the sale of gasoline-powered cars in the state by 2035.

California’s regulatory overlords are so eager to engage in virtue signaling that they ignore the devastating environmental and human costs of electric cars. Newsom is merely outsourcing suffering. This me-first attitude blinds the regulators to the harm their policies create elsewhere in the world, a harm that also goes directly against their stated goals.

So sometime in the next 14 years we are going to have to figure out how to blanket the landscape with those huge wind farms and acres and acres of solar farms so that we can handle the new electric demands of transportation. How much of the national electronic grid will have to be rebuilt or fortified?

Well I suppose the government can also put out mandates involving the elimination of non-transport electronic drains on the grid system. They are getting good at regulating and controlling the citizens.

People in these crazy blue states will still be able to buy cars in "free" states though, so these crazy blue states are not going to achieve what they think they will.

What they can't achieve with these crazy laws they will achieve through taxation. Even at the pump if that is what they have to do to get their way. Consider for a minute how they used taxation to control citizen smoking. They have perfected the technique of behavior modification through taxation. They can do what ever they want and the voter will never rebel. At least not here in NYS. Yes, the voters can get as angry as they want, but that anger never gets as far as the voting booth. We ARE a socialist state already and NYS government has mastered the technique of using the power that that system affords them. You can buy what ever you want, but getting to use a product that the state government does not approve of may be a very different story. There is no 2nd Amendment for car choice.

My Brother-in-law asked a simple question that I had no answer for. He asked how long does it take to fill up a battery for an all electric car. I know that filling my car with gas is a rather brief interruption in my life that uses maybe 5 minutes total foe each fill-up. But if I had an all electric car, and my batteries were getting low, how long would my car have to be side-lined at a charging station before I could resume my driving?

Another question that puzzles me is, what is the average life of the batteries that these cars use? And what does it cost to replace them when they refuse to take a charge? How about the massive disposal cost and difficulties that occurs with these.

I have to confess total ignorance when it come to these batteries, but do we have any electronics wizards here that know the answers to these questions? Are electric cars God's gift to the planet that we are being told?

I have heard tesla is getting the charging down rapidly, like 5 minutes.   As far as longevity of batteries,  i have seen a few already with less than 500 miles with dead cells. As of now cells not service separate from battery pack, but that will change. Auto manufacturer warranty seem to be covered 12 yr, 120k or more, so cost to consumers are low. Disposal, as of now all have to be returned to manufacturer.
