I never understood why Milo Hanson would get a cease and desist order against Rompola?? Especially if the Rompola buck was legit? I recall some questioning of details from this buck, but never heard anything definitive.

The most controversial buck ever !  Which is why I posted it here , Rompola certainly Marched to a different drummer  , but I was pulling for him .

Just will never understand, what some will do to get recognition for killing a big racked buck. Is your integrity. and your word as a man, in the eyes of your family, really worth sacrificing over a freakin deer???

The only.one i feel could be legit is the rompola buck, he didn't want to put up with media bull shit but seems to have take many other respectable buck. Even had video , no one ever came forward with picture of buck someplace else to disprove it . Unlike this guy who immediately was disproven.

Seemed so fed up he said  f it and signed agreement to not enter buck in books..  still no one has come forward with evidence to prove his buck was a high fence..   some day truth will be known and perhaps his will become record.

Really, how friggin stupid was this guy thinking he wouldn't get caught.  The other large deer he claims were shot behind his house were probably shot in the same high fence place, and no one questioned those, so let's try a world record, lol

That's the sad part of this. It used to be if you accomplished what you set out to do you were maybe given a pat on the back or perhaps someone would buy you a beer. I just nailed up some stair stringers for a small cabin. Did a great job, if I do say so myself. Could someone throw me a parade?
Assuming this guy's deer is illegitimate, how do you go about covering this up? Do you slip the high-fence operation a few bucks to not talk about it? Shoot it there and drag it to your property? Buy it live, release it and count to ten before you shoot?

Lol. When I got my first wall hanger we did a shot of whiskey!!!! That was it. After the shot of whiskey everyone forgot I existed as it should be lol.

The guy was a lifelong whitetail fame whore, and then he kills a "world record" and now doesn't want the attention? Complete fraud. And a pervert

the latest I've heard is that he did harvest the deer on his property, but it was an escaped pen deer. But the kicker is that he contacted the farm and they did verify if it was one of theirs. So it's not like he killed a fenced in deer and lied about it, but he certainly wasn't forthcoming about what he knew.

In my opinion, this still isn't a fair chase record as the deer wasn't raised and grown in the wild, despite where he killed it.

For the original post and others, minus the Rompola side tracking....those are two different hunters and two different deer.

One was shot in a preserve and passed as legit in KY.

One was shot legally in KS, and there have been many cams pics of the buck in the wild/private property for some time prior to season. There is strong belief that the buck escaped a pen from a hunting preserve 10 miles away some time ago - they haven't clarified how long, but it seems to be quite some time ago based on the fact that the preserve couldn't immediately ID that buck as being theirs. Deer did have a tag hole in its ear but no tag in the cam pics or post harvest. Certainly seems this was a legal kill - hunter not knowing any different. Whether it gets into the books...no idea.

This whole thread shows why I’m not a fan of scoring and “ record books .”

Also  “ world record “ according to who ? Some group with a set of rules ?

That’s not a “ world record” that’s their record . Either way scrap the whole tape measure thing and just hunt .

Sorry to see Settle not accepting any responsibility for this "false news", or "mix up". Even when presented with hard evidence he shot the buck on a preserve.

Was the 15 minutes of "fame" really worth it?

Good on F&S for posting the emails back and forth to support them. I still don't know that they did due diligence on having things verified before they shared the story, I guess they wanted to be the first. Still, the truth came to light, and like you said, the guy screaming "fake news" to try to play victim is a shame. Good thing it isn't going to fly with the supporting information that F&S has.

I can think of one good use for a tape measure on a buck.  I wonder what it’s chest girth measured ?  43” is the biggest of any that I have killed and measured so far.

Chest girth can provide a more accurate method of predicting edible meat yield volume from a deer than weight, since most of what that weight measures is water.  Water has no nutritional value.

I have read you quote about the chest measurement, what's the formula for calculating the weight?
