  1. yep, when you watch the nightly news and the weather report shows the record high and lows for that calendar day, how often do you see the record high for that day was way back in 1921, or 1911. Now how do you suppose they had "climate change" way back then before the industrial revolution.Volcanoes and natural gas methane pouring out 24/7, 365 days a year account for 99.99 % of the earths carbon emitions. We are a minuscule fraction of that. I'll bet a volcano can spit out more carbon in one days eruption that we do in 10 years. I will be quite cautious however based on that rare sighting.
  2. good call. I went to some other sources and you are correct;, it's a mink alright.
  3. I left out what I thought would be obviuos to some but not all. I stated in the opening post that the guy said he "had an extra tag". Now obviuosly based on the responses here that sounds legal to some. Let me translate the true meaning of that for those that are missing something. When a guy we're paying to hunt in Illinois says he "has an extra tag" what he's actually saying is that there is a tag laying aound in the name of one of his kin folk that could be used to take a 2nd buck should the hunter care to take the risk of hunting illegally with someone elses tag. More of what we're talking about here: two bowhunting partners going trophy hunting in the midwest. we' re not talking about going back out there to hunt for a doe or shooting a 2nd buck for meat. what we are talking about here is Illinois trophy hunting for large antlers on the wall. So my partner decides he'll take the guy up on his offer (bigger tip now expected) and go out and hunt for a bigger antlered 2nd buck and do it with someone elses illegal tag. now don't forget also doing it on the same small woodlot as your hunting partner who has not yet had a shot opportunity. Maybe now it's more clear.
  4. I've been bowhunting with a main partner for 4 years. We went to Illinois this year and paid for a self guided hunt on a small parcel of land. We set up stands but do to the size of the small woodlot the best locations for both of us are about 150 yards apart. My partner shoots a 120 class buck and talks to the guy we are paying who says that he has an extra tag in case he wants to get back out there and hunt for a 2nd buck. I myself have not yet had an opportunity to shoot a buck. Now if you were my partner under these circumstances would you go back out there and hunt for a 2nd buck?
  5. a different animal could have been special here. (Panasonic FX48)
  6. surely you gest. I guess I should take that as a compliment; thanks! getting an up close and personal picture like this from an old Sony P41 four meg camera would be extremely difficult / near impossible if you were physically there. all of my pictures are from trail cam units. lots easier that way
  7. picked up this one yesterday with a P41. easy to see why they have "rat" in their name.
  8. Don't think so. I did get my first picture of both mink and otter this year and they look different. The mink (1st picture) has a rounder face and the otter is just different looking.
  9. While I'm no expert, I did put that question to one of my trail cam buddies and he said "yes, wet fisher".
  10. I agree Doc, the rare animals are the ones that interest me the most. Not saying big antlered bucks aren't rare and great to catch; they are; just that some of the other critters are challenging and rewarding as well. That's why my cams run 365.Yes, the white flash units are the ones I like best. While the nightime infrared pictures I get from my Trophy cams stay around breifly for scouting purposes, these low quality pics eventually make it into the waste basket of my harddrive. I'm tired of infrared cams. I will admit though that they do have less spook effect than the white flash units. Last July I was getting 2 good bucks consistently in 2 different woodlots with my Bushnell trophy cams when I decided I would like to get a quality picture of them with their antlers full grown. So I set up a few quality homebrews at these sites but never did get another picture of either buck. I'll bet they saw the light going off from a distance when other deer tripped the camera and from then on they became competent at avoiding those units. While I use "homebrew" cams as my primary white flash units I was thinking about giving the "Covert" commercial cams a look. They do make a hybrid white/infrared flash unit as well as a white flash only unit that sells for about $120. here's another whacky critter I picked up last week.
  11. I guess next season can't come soon enough.
  12. not getting many buck pictures lately but there are many other interesting animals showing up.
  13. got these in January. I don't recall getting wood duck pictures before this late in the year. I guess the mild early winter temps have kept a few of them around.
  14. Lots of critters out there besides antlered ones to get great pictures of, so I run cams including a few Trophy cams all year long. I've used lithiums in the past for the winter months but I don't feel they last as long as they should. I've found many a dead unit in both cold and warm weather resulting from 1 battery giving it up while the others were still testing OK on a voltmeter. This year I will try Tenergy rechargeables durring the cold months and see how they fare. I have found winter is a good time to get pictures of hungry predators such as fox and coyote.
  15. good eye; looks like the same frame.
  16. You have a very classy way of expressing yourself.
  17. I bowhunt during the firearm season in areas that are also gun legal. I still have 2 buck tags but prefer to go at it with the bow. Still waiting for a shot at a worthy buck.
  18. got these the past few weeks from homebrew Sonys and Panasonics.
