Good question.
I don't believe so, the deer was close to the water, on a narrow peninsula, but not in the water.
The only 'rotten' thing about it was a greenish tinge to a patch of skin where some of the hair was pulled out on its rump.
The back end was being eaten out by crows.
There was a hole, which I suspect was an arrow wound, higher than a perfect shot.
