WE HAVE MOUNTAIN LION IN NEWBURGH AND PROOF
wdswtr replied to cynthiafu's topic in General Chit Chat
Well to some extent I agree but not a lot. I have hunted for them out west and agree they are elusive. But just the evidence alone they leave not so much. I stated in another thread a while ago just there kills alone of livestock would be easily observed by any farmer for that matter. They eat fresh kill, just ask anyone with livestock out west. Tracks are also very evident, and yes I seen them plenty long enough to take a camera out and take a picture. Especially when they are in a tree. There are also binoculars for long range viewing. Aside from all that DEC says there are 750,000 hunters in NY, to say they are so elusive that not one out of those 750,000 annual hunters aside from the other hundreds of thousands of people that have trekked through this state have never had a chance to take a picture of, or capture one on a trail camera with evidence to back it up, or further proof as in a foot print, fresh kill, scat, etc but yet the DEC can find a couple hairs from the one that passed through the state? If so then I guess we have a mountain lion population in NY state and there is not a living human being that can prove it. I find that extremely hard to believe. -
WE HAVE MOUNTAIN LION IN NEWBURGH AND PROOF

A documented population doesnt mean the Lions are of such a vast population that its a daily occurrence for anyone to see them. How many times has NSDEC requested sighting reports for endangered or any other wildlife they request for that matter. -
WE HAVE MOUNTAIN LION IN NEWBURGH AND PROOF

We have all read that article a hundred times. Its about a cat killed by a car that passed though many states supposedly including NY. Which leads to even more credibility to what I was saying, if they can find a hair from a mountain lion that passed through the state why cant we find the proof that there is this illusive creature some want so badly to be residents of NY? -
WE HAVE MOUNTAIN LION IN NEWBURGH AND PROOF

False reports is not the big reason for me, its that little thing called Proof. No one has supplied that yet. How many hunters, hikers, bird watchers, farmers, drivers, outdoor enthusiast heck anyone in NY carrying a camera, or a cell phone, or hang trail cams around this state and yet out of those millions of people Nothing nadda zilch with any credibility that hasnt lead to my cousins uncle Joes best friends brother in laws coworker got this picture only to be proven it was posted across half the country on the internet years ago. -
I have both a Lone Wolf and a Summit. The Summit is definately louder when setting up, very bulky packing it in the woods, a lot heavier but much more comfortable for all day sits. The Lone Wolf is not as comfortable, less roomy, but much lighter, much less noisy, a lot less bulky when carrying it and I like the strap system much better than the Summit. Its not just rubber is rubber coated cables. Quick and simple to setup and very easy to adjust the seat level once setup. Havent had any problem climbing any tree I have set it up on. I use the Summit for all day sits where Im not lugging it a long ways. I use the Lone Wolf for those 4 hours sits and when Lugging deeper in the woods.

When I signed my lease the going rates were from 10 to 15 an acre depending on amount. Another lease next to mine is 1000 acres and they are paying 10. Im paying just about 12. I know of some who have leases where they pay the amount of land taxes the owner owes on the parcel of land. Go to the town hall and get that properties tax info from public records and go from there. If the taxes are cheaper than the 10 to 15 an acre that is where I would be starting.

Same deer in all 4 pictures. Same deer in both your threads.

I bet there are more that slip through the cracks then we know. Just for an example a NYer goes to Ohio, tags a giant, comes back to NY and sticks his NY tag on it. Then enters it in the NY big buck club. How would anyone know it wasnt taken in NY if the guy who did this didnt shoot it on a preserve, didnt post pictures all over the net in Ohio or with the deer in Ohio etc, heck a picture taken behind his truck with the NY license plate showing, this years yellow tag on its antlers, who would ever know but him? Unless he opened his mouth and stuck his foot in it I would guess this happens more than anyone thinks. Some guys are in it for the glory more than the hunt itself. -
JRM your last sentence is another reason to have a good relationship and understanding with the landowners. They call me to let me know if a friend is using there place for a fishing trip and also let the friends know who I am so there is no confusion.

Isnt a DEP cops job to protect the water shed for NYC? What can he actually enforce beyond that? I cant see how all of a sudden you would be getting harassed with traffic violations like mentioned above. The first thing I would be doing is establishing with the actual landowner what he is willing to allow you to do with his land and trespassers. Your fighting a battle that can go nowhere unless you have landowner support. Without that your pissing up a tree Im afraid. I am a caretaker for 3 different parcels of land that border mine. All 3 owners are from out of state. When they first bought the parcels and built fishing camps on them we came to an agreement I would watch over there places, plow there driveways if they come up to fish in the winter and throw trespassers out. In return I am the only one who is allowed to hunt there and cut any dead trees for firewood. After year 1 and having to call the police on a few recurring trespassers I was informed I had nothing to stand on not being the land owner. These guys would park right in there driveways, put drives through there land and then move down to the next place and do it all over again. Not just one but a couple different groups of hunters. Very odd how fast this occurred as my family leased this land up to the point where it sold. Never had a problem before that. It was not until we changed things to the landowners themselves placed the call to the police and I would be the correspondence between them. Once the word got around the neighborhood that trespassers were no longer taken lightly things quieted down. I often wonder now if in the beginning we had an attorney write up a legal document authorizing me the authority on behalf of the landowners to take legal action on trespassers.

If its a big buck contest why is there a doe entered to begin with?

I despise opening day of gun in southern tier. Never could understand how much different people actions are compared to opening northern tier gun season either. Its like 2 total different worlds. There is only 1 reason I go to camp opening gun and that is to make sure the camp is safe and to keep trespassers out. There is a group of donks that park 2 big campers on state land for the first whole week of the season. Both campers run the loudest damn generators 24/7 from the moment they pull in the state land till the moment they pull out. The DEC has been called on them several time for extended camping with no permit, running 4 wheelers on state land and dead does with no tags. They must have gotten a few years worth of warnings before the DEC actually did anything because they were gone for about 3 years. Last year they all came back. THe kicker is they do not sit at all. The moment its light out on opening morning they start putting on drives, non stop over and over all day long on the same sections of state land. They line up on our border and push towards their campers. Never see much of anything again till they leave. Bow season is much different and I prefer it, I see deer, and I see no Aholes all bow season. Then bamm the wackos come out like hoards on opening day.

LOSER -
I use to years ago take the first shot opportunity that was presented. Then I learned shortly after that when I stopped doing that and let the scenario play out a bit and waiting for the better shot opportunity, I started consistently harvesting deer every year there after. It wasnt the snap shot your speaking of but similar in the patience category. Just beat it on your head to slow down. You mentioned bird hunting and carrying over the habit from that to bow. Same scenario I took thos quick snapshots bird hunting. Once I slowed down followed the tail, body head, shoot strategy an ol timer taught me things became much more clear in bird hunting as well. Take your time, follow through with the shot and in my opinion if you have to rush it in a panic to harvest an animal chances are things are gonna go wrong just as quick. I had a sticker on my riser in bright orange that said count to 10. Sounds dumb but it reminded me to slow down and by counting to ten before I released an arrow. It help program me into taking my time which instilled confidence through success.

Am I mistaken or is that a broadhead that goes on a wooden shaft that is tapered and glued into the broahead? Looks just like the ones my dad has from years ago that he used on wooden shafts. Never seen an aluminum accept that style head. Anti-Hunter hoax is what I think. Old broadhead, Bone, and there appears to be no damage at all. Has to be a Hoax.

Why is every argument on here involve Shawnhu? Its getting old, very old. How about keeping your perfection to at least every other thread. Enough already you sound like an idiot at this point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice job on taking the time searching. You get kudos for that!

I was trying to compare the whole scenario. The guy height versus the truck, the size of that deers head and neck compared to the guy. Im 6 foot and the top of my truck bed is level with my shoulders which tells me that is one very large buck sitting in that truck, but not knowing if its a half ton 3/4 or bigger I just scratch my head. Im not talking about its antlers either. Unreal I have seen many photos shot to make things appear larger than they are like the fisherman stretching there arms out and holding the fish closer to the camera kind of thing. Either way that is one very large buck in that truck.

Well Ants how did you make out? Hope it worked out for you or the deer lives another day!

Is that dude a midget or is that deer really that big LOL

I think Bubba is spot on. One joins yesterday the other today with back to back post. My guess is same guy. Great publicity stunt that backfired. All the mods got to do is track the ip address to find out.
