  1. I saved and zoomed in on it. Hard to see cause it gets all pixelated from low resolution. Looks odd but wonder if the white around the eye is throwing things off. I also dont think its a doe. There is 2 nubs on top of its head.
  2. Hit the county clerks office and look for county land as well. Never seen it any of them on a DEC map of sorts. Most dont even know that land exist as such. But beware of the locals who do know and protect them a there own.
  3. Apparently you havent seen the big fat house cat we have. lol
  4. Depends on how bow season plays out for me to honestly answer that . Im not against a one buck tag and Im not in favor of it in some aspects as well. An example of that is I hunt two main areas over 2 hours away from each other. Nothern tier and southern tier. There are no doe tags given out in my norther area and med chance on first choice and zero on second. So it puts a limit on amount of hunting one can do in this situation if they are a gun hunter only. BUT in reality this is not about me nor should it be about one individual but hunters as a whole. Which is impossible with so many variables from area to area. How does the state manage on a statewide basis, they cant and if they do no matter what many will be upset with the decision. Back to the question though Would a one buck tag increase the likely hood of me passing on younger bucks? I would say wouldnt make a difference for me as like I said before I try to fill the doe tag with bow and get the meat in the freezer and pressure off. Most years I am succesful at this. I will then pursue an oldre class buck if one never presents a shot which often happens and Im seeing lots of young bucks towards the end of the season I will take one. Not out of a selfish need to kill but rather a way to provide meat for my family and also I have been known to give some venison to some Amish friends who appreciate it more than I can explain. So in short nope not one bit lol.
  5. There are so many variables for me its tough for me to answer but I will give it a go lol. I tend to try to fill a doe tag with the bow in early season. If Im succesful at that I move on to pursueing a larger class deer. However if I am not succesful I still have a tendancy to hold off and wait for a larger class deer. But as it gets closer to the end of bow season and I am seeing a lot of small bucks like spikes I have no problem taking one to relieve the pressure a bit of putting food in the freezer (thats is only if Im seeing a high number of them) To sum it up once a doe or a late season small class buck is in the freezer the trophy hunt is on as well as trying to fill a doe tag or 2.
  6. Im confused, if Joe goes out and shoots a spike instead of a big 8 for example doesnt that leave the big 8 to only get bigger the following year and therefore increase the trophy class. If 20 hunters shot 20 large bucks that leaves 20 small bucks roaming the woods, would that not leave a smaller class of deer left in the woods? And a smaller class of deer left for the following year? Yes they will be bigger the following year but probably not trophy class. AR just makes no sense to me. Leave the little guys, kill all the bigger ones and what do you have left? A bunch of little deer. I would much rather and think it is only right that its a choice, I dont care if Joe kills a spike because that leaves a better class deer as far as antler goes for the next guy who might be a trophy hunter. You have to remember not all areas of the state offer doe permits, not all hunters are bowhunters and gun hunters and have the opportunity to fill a doe tag to let a spike walk if they are meat hunting. The way I see AR is it stops many people from putting meat in there freezer and it also will stop a lot of new young hunters from taking there first deer because it does not meet the STATE of NY standards as worthy of being eaten. Maybe Im way off target on this but it just does not make any sense no matter how I think about it.
  7. You ever try to put in a foundation in this weather before Grow? Just about impossible, mud, standing water really doesnt mix well with concrete and morter. Im so far behind on this build its putting me farther behind with whats in line next. The whole building site is nothing but a mudhole. I have had to forgo even thinking about the food plots at this point and if it ever stops raining so I can get caught up maybe a fall planting will work out but right now Im hundreds of hours behind. So yeah I will complain cause there is not much else I can do about it lol.
  8. Well we had one day without rain in the past 3 weeks and its raining again. WTF
  9. We needed it 3 weeks ago just not 3 weeks worths of it.
  10. Sure is putting a damper on pouring concrete, lawnmowing, fishing or anything outdoor related in the past 3 weeks.
  11. Spend any amount of time in Oswego county like said above and you will see them. Just look up! Its pretty short order to fill your trapping quota around these parts. Where there are porcupines there are Fisher. Its there main diet for the most part. More common to see them at night than daytime. I have had to release some jueniles and a female a time or two when I trapped and let me tell you that is a very tense few mintues and a lot of hoping they run off instead of ripping your leg apart when released. YIKES!
  12. Who says the mophia doesnt run this state? The liberal mophia and all its goons need to go!

  14. So what is the last date those scientist claim the wolf disappeared from NY? And what is the date from the begining of that 50 year void? Really curious as I recall my grandfather burying a few dead cows he found in the pasture that were mangled from a predator or two. I also recall digging a big deep hole more than once with the loader and the next morning the holes were dug up and the carcass was shredded. I remember seing the 4 legged creatures on more than one occasion as well, but this was 30 to 35 years ago. Just curious if these dates have anything in common or if its another one of those denial reports from the good ole state of NY. Makes me wonder if this was more percentage days of wolf than coyote mix back then. Keep in mind I was a kid and gramps claimed wolf. I also recal on my other grandparents farms neighbors talking about seeing wolfs and us kids were not allowed in the back 40 alone to play.
  15. probably not a martin but depends on where it was taken, not very common. It would be the tallest long legged mink I ever see. Fisher fits the profile much better and they are pretty common. I know people think other wise but they are abundant around here. Easily can get your bag limit trapping them in a weeks time here at home.
  16. LMAO there is no arguement from me, but why do you insist to attack people when you feel a little pressure to your responses? You should very well go back and read what you write before you attack any one else about grammar. Way to kill another thread with useless responses. Congrats to you and your impeccable grammer skills. Shall we get back to the reason this thread was started and quit the petty useless crap?
  17. Well I guess that is why through landowners and the power companies agreement along with local ATV and snowmobile club there is a trail system on the power lines here. You really got to be careful about those deer walking on the lines, make sure you dont shoot out an insulator or the deer gets tangled up there and you have to climb the pole to recover it. By the way about your constant grammer bashing, I highly doubt there are too many on here that really care its a forum. Saying it over and over is really working out well for you huh?
  18. Exactly, they dont own lease or have any right except to maintain the lines pole, brush etc. Its a sweet deal on there part, no land taxes to pay and makes that land virtually useless to the land owner who does pay the taxes on it. So yeah what the heck is his point?
  19. That is exactly my experience as well, Great way to see game not so great way to get a shot off. You have to constantly be looking left and right and hope you spot the deer before that spilt second pause and get your sights on them, if not they are gone in an instant. Doesnt make for great shot opportunity.
  20. I thought a NY slam was getting a whitetail with bow, gun and ML in same season? Who makes this stuff up anyways lol
  21. Pipe line already existed when I came along. Made a great section of food plot if anything. Yes I made sure it was okay! Same with all the neighbors, most moved out and new residents since it went in as well. I would suspect just one of those things lost in the paper shuffling.
  22. Boy I got ripped off then lol. Cause I dont get paid for that either. Its also a tedious and long process to get either one gated on your property boundaries to keep hot dogging trucks and 4 wheelers off, but its is possible so long as its approved and they get a copy of the keys to the gate locks.
  23. I have power lines that run through my property. Its a right of way, there is no lease, no monetary funds exchanged nothing. I pay the taxes and it even show power lines on the tax map on my land. I think this is the norm throughout the state. Just because there is power lines certainly does not mean the power company owns anything but the poles and lines. The power company has the right away to be on it not anyone else without permission by the landowner.
  24. Tuckersdaddy makes a very good point! Never fish under them fish over them. Walleye will not descend to bite or inhale in the case of the eye. If you are marking fish stay at there depth or better yet just above them.
  25. Wooly i spot on with getting the presentation away from the boat. Inline planer boards are a good choice as well, most all pro walleye fisherman use them for the ease of use and the space they do not take up on the boat. Trolling speeds around 2 to 2.5 is a good start. Troll into the wind, pick up and make a wide girth around the spot your fishing and start over. A succesfull tournament fisherman never ever trolls with the wind. If you are catching sheephead you are trolling to slow. Walleye like to hug the bottom and suspend a lot. Put several presentations out at different depths till you find what is working. Clip on lead is a good way to get the lure to where you want it as well. I have walleye fished a lot out of Dunkirk and Sandusky with great success. Just dont go in the bombing range lol. Make sure you tune your lures before sending them out as well, meaning hang them over the side of the boat and make sure they track straight and not of to one side. If they track to the side bend the eye of the lure a little left or right till its tracking straight. Reef runners, thundersticks are a good choice. Blueand silver, black and silver are good color combos. After awhile you will notice that one particular one will outfish another lure of identical features when it comes to walleye. Its all about that particular wobble action it gives off. When things are slow and you know you are on fish dont be afraid to hook a nice fresh fat crawler on one of the hooks either, this little trick has produced pretty well over the years when things are slow. Keep quiet on the boat, no radio, the less noise the better which is one reason back in the tournament days a fiberglass hull was more appealing to us than aluminum ones. A chop on the water especially on bright sunny days is your best friend when it comes to walleye fishing. Constant tension on the line when hooked up is a must, dont pump the rod up and down or you will lose fish after fish. If you use inline planers or clip on lead have a buddy unclip them and do not let him just let go of the line, keep tension on it and slowly release the line without giving it slack. If your not marking fish in the 15 to 30 feet of water dont be afraid to hit 60 feet. Keep an eye on bottom structure, a flat smooth bottom is a poor producer for me, rocky is good, edge of drop offs are great, edge of reefs etc. Even a light depth change is good walleye like some sort of structure no matter how slight it may be. When dark hits fish shallower water. A guided trip in your regular fihing spot will give you tons of info to go on as well. Man I miss the tournament tour. Happy Fishing!
