  1. Ya know, This statement makes me think about something. Do you think there are actually freezer fillers that purposely look to kill buttons and 2" spikes cause they know they can through the antlerless on it?
  2. Hey Fella, maybe i'm gonna end up looking stupid here or you are. Your quote was that you can take three bucks a year and have done so many times. My super sportsman allows me to take an either sex bow/muzz and a reg. season tag. If there is a way to get a third, i'd like to know how. Sorry to be so blunt. Remember we are talking about deer hunting regulations here.
  3. If your taking three bucks a year, then your a lowlife poacher..
  4. Earlier you posted that AR's would somehow hurt to keep hunter numbers up or that you won't be able to get new hunters interested.. Well if this is your current condition, is there any wonder hunter numbers are declining? If you can go years without seing a buck, you would think you would be the first in line to sign on to AR's. All i can see from here is that your in a pretty crappy situation. What do you want to do? Nothing and enjoy the wonderful hunting you are now? Or embrace this change and get to experience an improved hunt and herd in a couple short years.
  5. Welcome Rickshaw, Some say wisdom - some say humor , After you've been here a while, you'll put them both together and call us SMARTASS.. LOL
  6. LOL, this time i only lost one arrow. It entered so perfect that only the front one was destroyed and i was able to strip the carbon off the other one. Usually they are both ruined but i got lucky this time. I hear you about shooting seperate spots and if i start clanging a few, i'll do that, but today they were the first and second shots of the day. Dumb luck..
  7. Man i bet thats pretty with the sun comin' up in October !!
  8. I used to be really pumped when i shot a "Robin Hood" and they would go up on the wall in the "Kll Room". Kinda felt like a hole in one. Today i shot my fifth. My usual routine is to take my first shot at 30yrds as if it was my one and only shot at a buck. Today it landed dead center, so i took another at 30 and whack. excitement followed for about 10 seconds and then i realized i just ruined a $20 arrow. By the way, i took a third shot to see if i could produce the one in a million, double RH but just missed with the fletches touching. LOL Does anyone out there who shoots in leagues know the ruling on a Robin Hood.??
  9. I've had the opportunity to hunt near the Thruway and i have a theory that the next NY record will come within a mile of it. Not really serious but i wouldn't be surprised. I know of a half dozen real woppers that have called that turf home until they got shot.
  10. What a blur. Interesting how that camera spooks them. I think i would say he is a 3.5 . He looks a bit spindly and i suppose he could just as easily be a really nice 2.5 but i think he is still in velvet and may put a bit more growth on. Looks like he may be a 9.
  11. You are exactly right Muzzy. It has actually caused us to change our clover mowing schedule. In years past that first early summer mowing was usually done while standing and peering over the hood of the tractor. Finally after dozens of near misses, Mike finally hit one. It's not a good feeling. He actually took the fawn and had a full body mantle mount made that looks fantastic. Anyway, although our clover suffers, we've concluded that it's better to leave that fawning cover and mow later in the summer.
  12. Dom, i always appreciate your comments and questions. Many time i don't respond to questions that i don't have experience with or questions that i don't have helpful advice for. Your passion for hunting is seen through your posts and i hope you keep the comments coming. I tend to learn from people on here that have experiences that are different from my WNY view.

    Rain

Looks like south of Fingerlakes got a good downpour. We just got some light rain up north of the lakes. Bumber.
  14. Great stuff Carl. Sounds like you've been prep-ing for most of your adult life. Nice work..
  15. WNY had his chances in 2010. He was killed in 2011.. I heard 163 gross as an 8 pointer. That picture doesn't do it justice. He's a beast of an 8..
  16. Anyone else find the 22LR comment a bit interesting?? Mine are 12 guage slugs and sabots 30-06 50 cal in-line Hoyt Magna-tec Hoyt Turbohawk
  17. I can't get away from them..
  18. He's an 8H buck. I have reserved my thoughts on this subject because to be honest with you, i have no idea what it's like to hunt in a unit like the Catskills. You are right about one thing though. Even in my area, where i saw 8 bucks, 3.5 yr or older on opening bow weekend, and maybe 40 sightings of 2.5 or better during a season. They still feel the need to mow the yearlings down. Most of it is just lazy, gun slingers who cant wait to kill something.
  19. Great stuff Sam. That lets you know where some of the big deer are in growth right now..
  20. WNY. I'll post the picture.. This buck lived to this size because of self imposed age restrictions.. I know that means nothing to some and i totally respect that but in this neck of the woods, there are not many good reasons to take 1.5 yr olds.
  21. I don't even know what the "eff" this means?? Because most of us have lives outside of deer season, things get done when the priorities are done. i've been doing some things lately in prep for 2012. Food plots are in but on hold until we get some rain. With 70 more acres added to the Tosch properties, we've got the trail cams and scouting efforts devoted to the new piece. Stands have been going up but need to purchase a couple new ones for the new set-ups. Bow and gun are locked in so at this point i'm working on blind bail work and target at longer ranges to keep the form up. 50 yrd groups are good for the confidence factor.
