YOGI looks nice !!!

I looked into them and my first impression ( given i'm a crossbow idiot) was that the recurves have a wider wingspan, so to speak. How much should the demensions of the bow come into play? Similarly to compounds, it seems as though the compact design would be much more functional if you are a still hunter or if your in a treestand..?? Maybe the size of the bow is pretty far down the priority list though. What features should be at the top of the list??

What if you see a monster opening day?? All bucks walk until the rut??

This is my usual plan. This time of year i'm set up on the outer fringes with the cameras simply giving me some entertainment value and the hopes of seeing something special. I"ll check them every 10 days or so and move them if i'm not seing bucks. Around Sept. i'll move them in toward some of my stands but not near bedding and will not check them at all until I'm on my way to that stand for the first hunt. I don't need to know whats on that camera before then because it won't change anything for me those first couple hunts and the risk of busting a buck out to check cameras is not worth it. At that time i'll pull all the cameras out again and set them on field edges or access trails i have to use quite often during the season anyway. The cameras are up taking pictures during the season but not anywhere near stands. I don't use the cameras for any hunting decisions during the season. For me, I like to get pictues of pre-season bucks but i feel pretty good about where they will end up eventually once the season gets going and i'll be seeing alot of bucks while in stand so the risks of flashing, clicking, stinkin' cameras to educate bucks is not worth it to me.

Comparing the same deer almost a year later.
dave6x6 replied to Fairgame's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I don't know if i agree with that. If they are the same deer then he is most likely a 3.5 yr old because last yrs pic certainly looks like a 2.5 . At 3.5 you should be getting a pretty good idea if this deer has potential to be a stud at 5yrs, and although i think he's a nice deer, he may just not have the genes to put on 20" of bone a year. -
There was this one doe last year that i used to see almost every day when i sat my creek bottom stand. I named her "the olympic doe" because every afternoon she would start doing laps around the lower flats of this bottom. She would go at breakneck speed, jumping logs and racing right under my stand, and run this exact same loop, over and over. It was a good size loop, maybe a bit smaller then a football field, and she would put 15 to 20 laps in almost daily. It took all i could do not to audibly laugh my butt off as she came around the bend and would head right for me and then up and around. Even when i was out looking to shoot a doe, there was no way i was going to shoot her, even if she stopped right in front of me. The entertainment was worth more then the meat..LOL

Thanks for the topic and reasonable debate Elmo. It's timely for me because i've been re-reading a book that my daughter gave me some years back and so alot of these points have been floating around in my mind. The book is "The common Sense of an Uncommon Man; The wit, wisdom and eternal optimism of Ronald Reagan" By Michael Reagan . I highly recomend it especially those who may be too young to remember the 80's. Or to those who want to know what Reagan really meant to this country and not the media's failed attempt to portray him badly.

Just wondering.. I've seen on some other forums where on their profile, there is a section where you can put up some pictures. It was a nice feature because it allowed you to put some faces with the conversations. Do we have that ability on here and if not, any thoughts on it?

My brother asked me to help him in researching some crossbows that he's wanting to buy. Not knowing alot about them, I set out to find out what i can. Looking to spend about $600-$800. Three bows caught his eye : 10 Point Titan Extreme ; Barnett Buck Commander or Predator ; Darton Serpent ltd . Any one have any insight on these Crossbow makers and if anyone knows anything about these particular bows, that would be great. Open to any other bows i might want to look at also.. Thanks

He does have a nice body on him and i think he'll put a few more inches on him before he's done but what are you seeing that makes you think he's the same buck? He may very well be, but i'm just not seing any obvious markings to say for sure. -
Buckwheat has a bunch of good qualities that deer hunters can use but having a plot at hunting season to feed and attract deer is not really one of them. A "little" buckweat patch is not going to last past the summer. The good news is i bet the ground is perfect for putting in a late summer annual planting if you til it under.

Food plot questions on cutting
dave6x6 replied to Carl's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
If it's a new planting this year, then unless your that kid that posted that awesome clover patch a few weeks back, then i would doubt your clover is near 9" given the weather we've been having. I do have some concerns about the weeds though. If your up to the property, and your debating about mowing, you may want to at least mow the weeds that may be getting out of control and already gone to seed. If i'm wrong about the clover, and it is tall, then i would do as Splitg2 suggested and wait on clipping the clover til we get some rain in the forcast. Again, wait for rain if your gonna mow the clover, but feel free to mow the weeds if they need it. -
You keep going back to this no laws, anarchy thing but no one is debating that laws are essential. We are a nation that was built on the rule of law. My point was that collectivism, which is what you are advocating for, is diametrically opposed to freedom, liberty, and why our constitution is different from every other nations constitution. Our constitution provides individuals to reach their full potential in an atmosphere of maximum opportunity. The majority benifit concept sounds great in theory but for every INDIVIDUAL freedom you give up in the name of security or economic good or socail progress is another step towards tyranny.

Finally got some rain today. Not enough but the tubers should get some pop from it.
