  1. thats another thing that drives me, to keep the sport going and going strong, by mentoring, or taking my youngsters along. And being out in the blind or stand, the excitement when a deer comes out for them is priceless. "daddy, shoot it shoot it!", then explaining why i have to let it ride. Thats a riot for me as well.
  2. Ive had 3 of those mornings this season. Dropped binos 2 times, cell phne once, and grunt call 3 times and my rattlers once. lol, i know how it is, but mine are pretty frequent.
  3. I ike the peacefulness of getting away for a while, and the challenge, memories, etc.
  4. keep at it and be patient. they are out there.
  5. not sticking here, but snows off and on. i like it.
  6. thanks. My kids are my good luck charme. my daughter was with me opening nz rifle when I got my doe, and stepson today. Got a 6g doe tag consigned to me, gonna take my 4 yr old for that one.
  7. well, not everyone has the luxury of the 60 bucks plus it takes to process. As far as feeding family, it helps a whole hell of alot. If some one can shoot a few deer, it does help tremendously.
  8. Did it on my own. Im to stubborn. Its hanging in the garage now.
  9. my 10 year old stepson got out this morning, in stand at 545 am. About 650, a lil button came out, then a doe chased by a decent 4 point. about 730, the lil guy was was ready to go, I made him wait. So, he caught a glimpse of a deer wanxdering into the woods off behind us to our right. I blew off a grunt, and saw another button and doe behind me, then 2 nice bucks came in with a doe. In that same time he saw what he claims a huge buck chase another doe in front of us, but had no realistic shot. So i toyed with the other 2 bucks, grunting, and they were trying to find me. One was a four, other a 5. I took the 5 at 30 yards with my 7mm 08, ran about 20 feet and dropped. Hanging and tagged from the kubota. Having good luck with that new rifle, and good end to a painful week.
  10. LUCKY!!!!! Im gettin wet annoying snow up here.
  11. I hear you there....... That really sucks.
  12. id say a lil more than 100.......120 maybe.
  13. gonna give it a go.... lil bit of rain and wet snow up here, guess its a lil dryer down at the farm..... see if i can shoot a buck to make up for this hamburger finger.
  14. ok, speaking of the can...... I have the big can..... do they really work? If they do, what in the sam heck am i doing wrong?
  15. redfield and osceola is full of state land as well. go for a little ride and check them out.
  16. how about scent dispersal systems? I use them like my 4 year old uses legos..... Is that baiting? noooooo
  17. I have no problem with someone shooting a button. I wouldnt, but thats me. I think any harvest for anybody is a great thing, regardless of size or sex of the deer. I shot a 125 # dressed out doe on opening day and was so excited I thought I was gonna pee myself. Some people have it better than others, and thats what alot of people dont understand. So, if you have an opportunity to fill that tag, and maybe your only opportunity, fill it. I have a friend who is a single dad with 4 kids, and works non stop to pay the bills, and barely can afford groceries, and he takes what he can get legally and ethically to have food on the table for his kids. (I even help him out where I can with day care, etc) If its a button, who cares. If its a 140 class 8, awesome. But in my book, it dont matter. Like paula said, they are your tags, and do as you wish.
  18. gotta love those bolt action silverados........ drops em dead. nice deer.
  19. 2 8n's for a 6k or 6g, or 7a, and the 7a tag can go to johnnylongcats kid. if i can make a swap.
  20. dave, i wasnt dissing you, i was just stating my opinion. im also a little off the beaten track being up here in sandy creek/ellisburg.
  21. moisture can still get in there. nature of the beast. for the price, just blast them out and reload. its better than a failed shot or miss.
  22. definately time to start paying extra attention, and do some all day sits. not necessarily in ne stand, but maybe sit till 11 or so in one, and wander around a bit giving off a few calls and rattles b4 you get to your next stand, or whatever, and change up scenery a bit. Hit the water and feed areas hard mid day, and feeding areas at night.(by night i mean pm sit, sorry)
