  1. Look for tall grass. In the fall/winter when it dies down you'll find rabbits hiding in them. Also any old apple trees will hold them around. Went last year on a couple of public spots in Delaware close to the Sullivan border for the goof. As I walked around rabbits and grouse both flushed. No dog jut me and a 12 gauge. Got 2 rabbits and one grouse...could have had more but I kept missing the gouse and got to lazy to look for more rabbits.

  2. I did some grouse hunting this past Satuday with my brother in law. We hunted between 10am and 1pm. A friend told us to try over by the Fleischmans/roxburry area. Anyay went there with my brother in law. We flushed three grouse and he got one. We also had two woodcock flush up and I got one. Woodcock were sitting out right in the open. I thought they were a pieces of wood on the grass till they flushed up. Hardest part was finding it after I shot it. It was his first grouse and I have yet to get a grouse. Was my second woodcock so I'm no expert there either.....none the less great day being out.

  3. Till this past weekend I was seeing flocks all over the place anywhere from 20-50 birds at a time. Many of them were toms. I checked my trail cams also... figured knowing my luck I wouldn't have a thing but to my surprise I have some real nice toms on my cams as well. I'm headed back up this weekend...hope to see more. More importantly hope to see them May 1st.

  4. 16 ga - I'll take any tips possible and I would very very much appreciate them. This is for me but more importantly for my father in law. He's been wanting to do small game hunting for years. He's gone deer hunting but finds it boring. He's 67 years old, keeps saying he doesn't know for hom much longer he will be able to hunt or be around and he would like to be able to do some small game hunting. I love walking around in the woods, I can do it for hours on end but he cannot. He claims he can but after a couple of hours he gets tired, dissapointed and says I'm never going to experience it. Yeah it may sound a little like giveme a break and stop complaining when he tells me this but at the same time I feel bad for him so I'm trying to do this for him. He went and bought a short haired pointer last year fully trained. He's hunted her on pheasant preserves but he's looking for wild birds. Again I appreciate any tips.

Martin - Thank you so much!! I will make a point of it to take my father in law and go..... thanks so much again.
